Building Community through Morning Meetings
Each of our classrooms begin their day with morning meeting: a place to share the day's upcoming events, weave in some academic review, play games together, and offer students an opportunity to highlight and share things that are important to them in their lives outside of school. We also hold all-school community meetings each Monday morning, and we welcome caregivers who would like to share something with students: a musical talent, unique pet, story to tell, or items from a different place in the world are all things elementary students love to experience! If you have something to share, please reach out to Shannon at shannonm@mpsvt.org. We would love to see more families join us and get to know all of our students and staff.
PreK Survey Closing Soon for 2024-2025 Program
We are surveying the community throughout the month of October to gauge interest in a PreK program at RVS for the next school year. As we are already in the budgeting process, it is important to know how many families hope to utilize this service. This program would run 5 days per week from 7:45 - 11:00AM, for children who will be 3 or 4 years old by September 1st. To participate in the survey, please visit this link. You can also give feedback in the form if you would like to participate, but the timing of the program makes it a challenge for you.

“"The MRPS School Board is seeking community members with relevant experience and knowledge to join a newly formed Net Zero Ad-Hoc Committee that will guide the board in developing a decarbonization plan and net zero evaluation tool for future facilities and operations decisions. The Ad-Hoc committee will meet for 2 hours every month from November through June. These efforts are being launched in accordance with the board’s net zero and decarbonization resolution passed in May 2023. If you are interested in joining the Ad-Hoc committee, please visit www.mrpsvt.org/net-zero-ad-hoc-committee, review the Request for Applicants, and email Kristen Getler (kristengetler@mpsvt.org) detailing your interest and qualifications to join this effort by October 19th, 2023."

Coming soon: Mad Scientist Day at RVS!
On Tuesday, October 31st, students will spend the afternoon at Mad Scientist Day! We will rotate through fun science experiments that may be slimy, icky, or even a little explosive (just baking soda, don't worry!). As a reminder, students should not wear Halloween costumes to school, nor should they bring Halloween candy. We are all set on volunteers - thank you, everyone!
October Reading Challenge and lunchtime book clubs!
Students in grades K-4 are participating in a reading challenge for the month as they get used to reading at home and tracking their progress. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you need help accessing books - we have plenty to share! All students should bring back reading logs this Friday, October 27th!
Our next upper elementary book club will begin on Wednesday: students who choose to sign up will meet twice a week at lunch to read The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau.
