An Update from the Principal
Dear MHS Community,
I hope you all had a wonderful long weekend and that all is well. Here we are in the last week of May, entering June, and there is a lot going on at MHS. The commotion is what I love the most about the end of the year, whether that's athletics, the fantastic Pops Concert last week, witnessing the connections students and adults have made, planning for next year, or the beginning of graduation week to celebrate our seniors.
And what I remind myself most of is to breathe. I have this sign on my wall: "Calmness is a human superpower. The ability to not overreact or take things personally keeps your mind clear and your heart at peace."
We can do this. We support one another, and the year will end, no matter what. We will continue to reflect, plan, and address what is needed.
And it will all be okay or even better than okay. With that, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for your continuous communication, thoughtful reachouts, and unwavering support of MHS and our students and staff. Your contributions are invaluable and greatly appreciated.
We appreciate you.
We hope you have a great new week, and see you soon.
Best,
Jason

Extended Learning Opportunities
Food, Farm, and Society - Unique Summer Opportunity
Now in its 11th year, this summer program offers students academic credit along with pay for the work associated with food production.
The class will meet for 20 days over the course of 4 weeks. The weeks are spread out to coincide with the work needed and the educational opportunities available as the growing season progresses.
The daily schedule is broken down into roughly 3 hours of experiential education, and 2 hours of work. This will yield one semester of Science credit and 40 hours of work at $14.00/hr.
The class will meet at Montpelier High School where students have access to 2 greenhouses, a chicken coop, an aquaponics system, numerous gardens, 2 beehives, and an earthen pizza oven, in addition to traditional academic resources. There will be field trips to local farms and food processing facilities. The class is led by Tom Sabo, a certified science teacher.
The class is being offered to students at Montpelier High School, U32, Twinfield, Northfield, Spaulding, Randolph Union and Harwood Union. Given the experiential nature of the class, it is limited to 12 students.
Volunteer This Summer!
Looking to give back to the community this summer?
Montpelier Senior Activity Center (MSAC) needs volunteers to help with the FEAST Senior Meals Program, during the summer months. This is a great opportunity to connect with older neighbors and help them continue to live at home or to join the FEAST team at the Center! Some parents bring their children along to instill the value of volunteering (minimum age for helping in the kitchen is 14). Summer Volunteer opportunities include:
Delivering Meals on Wheels for older adults who are homebound, either weekly or on an occasional basis (11:30 am to 12:30 pm)
Helping with “Grab ‘N Go” meals on Thursdays in July, 4:00 to 6:00 pm
Volunteering on “pie day”: - pass out pies for a fundraiser, 1st Wednesday of month, 4:00 to 6:00 pm
Processing farm fresh produce with a team, often on Fridays
Dishwashing with a team, your choice of weekday, 1:00 to 3:00 pm
Helping on the FEAST Farm, your choice of weekday, any time between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm
