PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
Dear Missituk Families,
This has already been a busy couple of months! A big thank you to our PTO volunteers, who have worked so hard to organize some great events for this school year. I hope you were able to join us for our ice cream social. We had a wonderful turnout, and it was so much fun.
PTO Meeting: This Wednesday
Our first in-person PTO meeting is this Wednesday, October 14th, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria. We will be talking about the upcoming Trunk or Treat and other fun events planned for the school year. I hope you can join us.
Literacy Screening Results
This September, all Missituk students took the DIBELS assessment, and students in grades 1 to 5 also took the MAP Growth literacy assessment. This week, you will receive a letter with your child’s results.
The purpose of early literacy universal assessments is to help us identify students who may be at risk for reading difficulties so we can provide the support they need. These screenings are not intended to diagnose any disability or to make any official determinations.
Learn More: Literacy Screening Overview
To learn more about the screening process, please join District Literacy Coaches Kristin Howell and Julie Turowetz:
In person: Wednesday, October 21, 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., McGlynn Library
Via Zoom: Thursday, October 22, 9:00 a.m. (the link will follow)
Thank you for all you do to support our students and our school community.
Warmest regards,
Nancy Sherman-Hudson

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
We are back in the swing of things at the Missituk! We appreciate everyone’s grace and flexibility when coming to the loop in the morning and afternoons. When we all work together, we are more efficient and safe! Please remember the loop area is a live loop, which means parents and caregivers stay in the car!
In partnership, we will be working with families to address student tardies and absences. Remember, even one absence a week can add up to affect student growth and progress. Throughout the year, we send our attendance letters to ensure families are aware of the number of tardies and absences. We are happy to meet with families to create plans to help build routines and put supports in place when it is needed. As always, reach out with any questions or concerns! Looking forward to seeing a lot of families at the upcoming Trunk or Treat!!

SECOND GRADE
Grade 2 October News
Hello Second Grade Families!
This will be a fun month! We will be learning about Bats to culminate in our game of Bat Jeopardy later this month!
In Math we are working with coins and solving word problems. We are also sending home math fact practice cards. Practice at home!!
In Literacy we are finishing our Super Citizen module and will be beginning our module on Solids, Liquids, and Gases.
It’s going to be a great month!
THIRD GRADE
We have been working on the following activities in 3rd grade:
Math: We started to learn about multiplication, including practicing skip counting, finding multiples, and making arrays.
Literacy: We are working in Module 1 answering the essential question, “What makes a character interesting?” We have worked on identifying theme, point of view and using text and graphic features. We have started working on an open response to text.
Social Studies: We have started to learn about the Indigenous people of the Northeast, past and present. We are learning about their relationship with the land and their gratitude for what nature provides for them.
FOURTH GRADE
October 2026
Happy fall! Fourth graders worked hard this month as we began our introductory units. In math, we worked with factors and multiples. Next, we will begin to collect and organize data using line plots. We have been reading stories about identity and investigating soils and weathering in science. Fourth graders have also been observing physical maps and asking questions about them as part of our new Investigating History social studies curriculum. Practicing math facts and reading each night are important ways for your student to reinforce skills at home. If your fourth grader signed up to play an instrument, please make sure they bring their instrument to school on Mondays (strings) or Fridays (band). Thanks for your support at home!
