Classical Education - Teaching Both Faith and Reason

"To exclude the truth of God from education diminishes an institution's ability to teach truth."

~ St. John Henry Cardinal Newman

"Of course, standardized test scores and college acceptance rates are important--and in these areas our students earn impressive results--but as champions of classical Christian education we recognize these as the material ends of an education that seeks to achieve more. We consider these to be by-products of an education that pursues the development of a soul in pursuit of authentic happiness, of a student committed to becoming who God wants him or her to be, of a person willing and able to perform what Cardinal Newman calls the "definite service" God has committed to him or to her and to no one else. This is why educators should talk about wisdom and virtue as often as they do about grades and assignments and books. Education is about more than just careers and productivity. Students are made for more than their contribution to the GDP."

~ Leigh Lowe, Rare Moments, The Classical Teacher

The Most Powerful Education

"...I say that a cultivated intellect, because it is a good in itself, brings with it a power and a grace to every work and occupation, and enables us to be more useful, and to a greater number.

This process of training, by which the intellect, instead of being formed or sacrificed to some particular or accidental purpose, some specific trade or profession, or study or science, is disciplined for its own sake, for the perception of its own proper object, and for its own highest culture, is called Liberal [Classical] Education..."
