Message from the Principal Message from the Principal

What a lovely potluck and Back to School night we had this week! And what a perfect September evening! I’m enormously grateful to FOCS for organizing this wonderful community event, and to all the families who set up tables and chairs, brought flowers, table cloths, delicious food, and ensured that the space was spotlessly clean after!

It was wonderful to bring our school community to eat, talk, and laugh together. And students were so proud and excited to show families their learning spaces and experiences.

With gratitude,

Nadya

Reminders and Useful Bits Reminders and Useful Bits

  • Annual forms: We are still missing annual forms from many families. Please contact Laurie in the main office if you have not yet turned in your annual forms. Students cannot go on field trips without them!
  • Early Release Times: On early release days, pick-ups leave BEFORE busses. Please arrive by 12:50 if you are picking up. Busses leave Cornwall approximately 1:05 - 1:10, after they arrive from the middle and high school pick-up.
  • Student and Family Handbook: Our updated handbook is available on the button below, as well as on the ACSD website. It is a working draft, which means you may still find a typo! We welcome feedback. :-)

Safety Update Safety Update

On Friday we practiced a lockdown. Safety drills of this kind are required by Vermont law. Classroom teachers talked with students about different directions they might hear in a safety situation, such as “evacuate”, “clear the halls”, or “lockdown”. Then I called the word “lockdown” over the radio and down the halls, and students practiced being quiet and following directions from staff.

This can be an emotional topic for students and families. We talked with students in a developmentally appropriate way before and after the drill, and then we quickly moved on about our regular day.

If you have questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out.

In partnership,

Nadya
