Chatham Elementary School Community Update

November 17, 2024

Dear CES SHARKS & Friends,

Thank you to all of the families who were able to attend or send photos of their favorite veterans for our Veterans Day Assembly. (You can view this year's video by clicking on the video link below.) Our SHARKS took a lot of pride in learning about Veterans Day and performing for our very special guests. On behalf of our entire community, we thank you Veterans!

In other CES news, there are several field trips this week including our annual all-school visit to Chatham Bars Inn for a Thanksgiving Luncheon on Wednesday. The luncheon at CBI is one of our favorite events of the year as we get to spend time celebrating being SHARKS!

Reminder there are NO CLUBS this week. Session II Club registration information is coming soon. Session II Clubs begin Monday, December 2nd.

Please join me in welcoming Mrs. Brennan Finnegan to her new role as administrative assistant at CES. Mrs. Finnegan will be taking over for Ms. Deb who is moving on to Monomoy Middle School. Mrs. Finnegan will join Mrs. Caswell in the front office.

Recess Clubs

CES is proud to bring back Recess Clubs. These small groups are run by CES teachers during the recess period. They are a great way for students to engage with peers and staff on a subject that is of great interest to them. We try to make sure that every SHARK has an opportunity to join at least one recess club over the course of the school year.

This year, we are expanding to include accelerated learning groups in mathematics and reading. Students will have the opportunity to dive deeper into each subject content area with motivated peers. Letters to families of students selected for accelerated learning groups were sent home via backpack mail on Friday, November 15th.

Recess clubs begin Monday, November 18th and will end on February 14th. Thank you to our wonderful staff members who facilitate these groups: Ms. Groves, Mrs. Finn, Ms. Macomber, Mr. DiNoia, Mrs. Grodzicki, and Ms. Kidd.

Fall Food Drive

Chatham Elementary is pleased to assist a former CES SHARK, Remi Schreiner, in a much needed project for our local community. Between Monday, December 2nd and Friday, December 13th we will be collecting the following items:

unexpired non-perishable foods (canned food, pasta, grains)
unused toiletries
diapers
pet food

Your donations can be dropped off in the collection boxes located in the Main Lobby of CES. Donation drop-off hours are between 7:30 and 3:15; Monday December 2nd through Friday, December 13th.

Thanksgiving at CBI

One of our favorite traditions at CES returns on Wednesday, November 20th with our annual Thanksgiving Luncheon at Chatham Bars Inn. Many years ago, CES did not offer hot lunches. One of the chefs at CBI wanted to make sure that CES students received at least one hot lunch a year at school and the Thanksgiving Luncheon was created.

The incredibly generous staff at CBI hosts our entire school for a sit down Thanksgiving feast in their dining room. Students and staff dress up in their finest and enjoy a meal. Afterwards, the students sing for the staff at Chatham Bars Inn as thanks for the event.

CES Parent Teacher Organization

The Chatham Elementary Parent Teacher Organization (CES PTO) is looking for families and staff members to help plan and run school-wide events and fundraisers. Coming soon is the Annual Holiday Movie during the Chatham Stroll.

You can volunteer a little or a lot of time, any help is deeply appreciated and benefits all members of our community! We hope you will join us on Tuesday, November 19th at 6:00 pm in the Media Center to learn more about our plans for this year and how you can participate.

This year participation in the PTO has even more advantages. We are going to have door prizes for parents and guardians who join the PTO meetings. Also, every parent or guardian who attends will earn extra tickets for their student's classroom! Bring an adult friend to join the PTO and double the amount of tickets your student's class can earn!! Join the fun and help build our PTO!!!
