Orca Families,

We are so proud of how well students are learning the Orca 5 (Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Caring, Be a Great Learner) and how they are settling in nicely to our daily routines. The weather has been fantastic and students are enjoying themselves out at recess. We have just a few reminders and could use your help. Please remind your child that we cannot have toys here at school. This includes pokemon cards. Many students like to trade these cards or lose cards and it has become very difficult to manage. We appreciate your support in having your child leave these items at home. In addition to toys, we do encourage students to keep cell phones at home. If there is a need for a student to have their phone with them, they are to keep these off and in their backpacks. We cannot be responsible for the phone if they choose to have one here. Many students also have watches that are phones and we will need to follow the same expectations as we do with phones. Please feel free to talk with your child's teacher or our Administrative team if you have any questions.

There are some exciting events coming up next week and we look forward to seeing you there.

Warmly,

Lisa Brozovich, Principal

Alisha Maulding, Assistant Principal

Schoolastic Book Fair! Schoolastic Book Fair!

Volunteers Needed

Our first book fair of the year will start this upcoming Monday the 26th, and we need your help. These fairs are continually a student highlight, and it is the volunteer participation that makes it happen. As a bonus to the joy, volunteers will receive $5 in Scholastic Dollars for each hour worked. **To volunteer, please ensure you have completed a volunteer application with the district. **

Visiting the Book Fair

Each student will have the opportunity to visit the book fair during their scheduled library time! Items purchase other than books (such as invisible pens, slime, craft kits, etc.) need to be put directly in backpacks and taken home!

DONUTS with a GROWN UP!

Our final day of the Book Fair kicks off with a treat! Bring a special grown up out to the playshed for donuts on Friday, September 30th beginning at 7:45am and then be sure to check out the Book Fair in the Library before drop-off begins at 8:10am!

Thank you to our AMAZING PTA for organizing this great event!

September is Attendance Awareness Month!

You've probably heard the phrase: If you miss school, you miss out! Missing 10%, or about 2 days each month over the course of a year, can make it harder to learn to read. Students can still fall behind if they miss just 1 or 3 days every few weeks. Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school - and themselves. Start building this habit in elementary school so that they learn right away that going to school on time, every day is important. Eventually good attendance will be a skill that will help them succeed in high school and college.

A Message from the Health Room

Mrs. Marino, our health technician, is here to serve and support students with all of their health needs. Although attendance is a priority, we ask that you keep your child home if they are experiencing symptoms of illness.

We are no longer conducting COVID testing onsite. We can, however, provide families with an at-home test. Any student or staff member who tests positive for COVID-19 is required to isolate at home for 5 days. In these cases, we will provide a return date and notify all Crestwood families with a general exposure letter.

Again, if your child is absent for any reason, please call the front office at your earliest convenience. Thank you in advance for doing your part to keep all students and staff as healthy as possible.

Monthly Character Trait

This month we are focusing on respect! Classes are taking time each day to discuss how they can show respect towards themselves, others, and things in their lives. They have been learning about listening, friendship, conflict resolution, perspective taking, and leadership skills. We hope this month inspires conversations at home about what respect means to you and how you can practice it together!
