Updates From The Principal Updates From The Principal

Hello NRMS Families,

We have had some milder temperatures this week and the snow is beginning to melt. A welcome change during this week that we returned from the Blizzard. Just a few quick updates for you today, as we already shared a newsletter earlier this week.

Attention 6th graders and parents/guardians of 6th graders: On Monday we will share with you information about selecting a World Language to study for grade 7 and 8. You will need to visit the Aspen system and select either French or Spanish. Please be on the lookout for that email so that we can get those course selections back quickly. This is one of the first steps in the scheduling process.

It is at this time of year that we create the student schedules for next year. For students currently in grades 6 and 7, there will be some additional course requests that you will make in Aspen for next year and we will share that information, as it is available. For students in Grade 5, we are currently gathering information from the elementary schools that will inform our scheduling process when these students attend the middle school for grade 6.

Please go back and read the newsletter from Monday to review additional updates for this week. A reminder that starting with this past Monday's newsletter, we will share a list of spring events each week. This list includes the updated dates for the end of the quarter and trimester, as well as June events so that you can save the dates.

Have a great weekend and don't forget to change the clocks ahead one hour this week for Daylight Savings Time!

Peter Cohen, Ed.D.

Principal

Spring Athletics Information

Dear Nauset Regional Middle School Parents & Student-Athletes,

NRMS is gearing up for the upcoming 2026 Spring Sports Season here at NRMS. This Spring, we will be offering Track & Field, Softball, and Baseball for students in grades 6 through 8.

REGISTRATION
Registration for the spring sports season will begin on Monday, March 2nd and end on Friday, March 20th.

To sign up for participation, please visit Arbiter Sports by clicking: HERE.

Please ensure that you complete the registration by the deadline, which is March 20th.

PHYSICAL
Before students can participate in tryouts, it is imperative that they have a valid in-person physical examination on file with the nurse's office at NRMS dated within the last 13 months. If your student-athlete's physical examination is not up to date, we urge you to schedule an appointment at your earliest convenience to ensure timely clearance for participation in the tryouts. For questions regarding physicals, contact our school nurse Bonnie Hartung (hartungb@nausetschools.org)

CONCUSSION EDUCATION
Students must complete the online concussion education course for students. Select Massachusetts and download the course. The course is free.

Email a screenshot/picture of the completion certificate to the NRMS Athletic Director Greggory Barr at barrg@nausetschools.org . The certificate will have a completion code on the bottom right of the certificate. The course certificate is valid for one year.

ELIGIBILITY
Academic eligibility for participation in Spring sports is determined by their report cards. Students with two or more failing grades, or those with one failing grade and an incomplete, will be deemed academically ineligible for participation. Additionally, students intending to try out for teams will undergo an eligibility review to assess their adherence to the Nauset ROCKS principles. Students who have failed to demonstrate these principles may be denied the opportunity to participate.

SPRING SPORTS MANDATORY MEETING
The Spring sports Student Athlete meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 19th @ 2:45pm in the Nauset Regional Middle School cafeteria. There will be a Virtual Parent meeting on March 19th at 6:30pm. meet.google.com/gfn-abvd-jss

TRYOUTS/PRACTICE START DATES
The first day of Spring sports is scheduled for Monday, March 23rd.

We look forward to another exciting season of teamwork, skill development, and sportsmanship. Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our athletic programs.

Sincerely,

Greggory Barr
NRMS Athletic Director

Nauset Public School and District Report Cards 2025

Dear Families,

Every year, each public school and school district in Massachusetts receives a report card. Just as

your child’s report card shows how they are doing in different subjects, the school’s report card is

designed to show families how our school is doing in different areas. Links to our schools' report

cards are available on our NPS website under the family tab or on the Massachusetts

Department of Education website at:

Nauset Regional Middle School 2025 School Report Card

This is a link to a Quick Facts and Glossary information flier. You can also access our report card

or any other school’s report cards through this link: reportcards.doe.mass.edu.

About the Report Card: The report card includes multiple measures of a school’s performance,

more than just MCAS scores. It represents a new way of looking at school performance by

providing information on student achievement, teacher qualifications, student learning

opportunities, and more.

District Report Cards are designed to be useful tools for everyone connected to our school.

Families can use the information to have meaningful conversations with us about what the school

is doing well and where there is room for improvement. Community and education leaders can

use the information to better understand how to support students and our schools.

As you review the different categories, please note that for some schools certain measures may

appear as 0%. This reflects that those measures are only applicable at specific grade spans, such

as the middle or high school level. For example, the category titled Grade 9 Course Passing will

show 0% for all schools except the high school, as it is a measure specific to grade 9.

As you will see, one of the categories is labeled Accountability. An accountability system brings

together a set of measures in order to provide clear, actionable information about district and

school performance. In Massachusetts, accountability results are calculated using information

related to student performance on state tests, chronic absenteeism, high school completion, and advanced coursework completion. In 2024, a new measure called Overall Classification was

introduced to the Accountability section of the report cards. An accountability system brings

together a set of measures in order to provide clear, actionable information about district and

school performance. In Massachusetts, accountability outcomes are determined by factors such

as student performance on state tests, chronic absenteeism, high school graduation rates, and

completion of advanced coursework. The Overall Classification portion of this Accountability

section measures a district's progress toward targets set by the state. The districts are then placed

into two categories: requiring assistance or intervention or not requiring assistance or

intervention. All of our schools are making moderate to substantial progress and therefore do not

require assistance or intervention from the state.

Parents/Guardians are essential partners in the success of our students and school, and we deeply

appreciate your ongoing support. We encourage our families to get involved and work with us to

continue improving our school community. If you have questions about our school’s report card,

or would like to become involved in school improvement activities, please contact the school

principal or Victoria Saldana, Assistant Superintendent. A hard copy will be provided upon

request.

Thank you,

Victoria Saldana

Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning

Please Help Us Out With the Spaghetti Dinner

Dear NRMS Parents,

We are excited to share that our 8th Grade Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser will take place on Thursday, March 18, 2026, from 5:00–7:00 PM. This event will help support our students as they prepare for their New York City school trip.

Tickets are $15, and children under 5 eat free. 8th grade students are now selling tickets. A portion of each ticket sold will go directly toward reducing individual student trip costs, while another portion will support the NYC Trip Scholarship Fund to ensure all students have the opportunity to participate. Tickets will also be available at the door.

To make this event a success, we are asking for your support through both donations and volunteer assistance. We are currently seeking donations of:

  • Pasta

  • Pasta sauce

  • Rolls and garlic bread

  • Water and soda

  • Desserts

We are also looking for volunteers to help with setup, cooking, serving, and cleanup on the day of the event. Any time you can offer is greatly appreciated.

In addition to the dinner, we are thrilled to host our first-ever “Nauset’s Got Talent” talent show that same evening from 6:00–8:00 PM, featuring performances by both students and staff. Tickets for the talent show will be $5, and all proceeds will benefit the Field Trip Scholarship Fund.

Finally, we encourage you to look ahead to June and consider volunteering for the 8th Grade Dinner Dance. Traditionally, 7th grade parents “pay it forward” by chaperoning the dance so that when their child reaches 8th grade, they can fully enjoy this special milestone. The date for the dance will be announced in the coming weeks.

Thank you in advance for your continued support of our students and school community. If you are able to donate items or volunteer, please reach out - ptonrms@gmail.com - we truly appreciate your partnership in making these events memorable and successful.
