A Message from District 34 Superintendent Dr. Dane Delli

Dear District 34 Staff, Parents & Community Members,

As you see in the message below, our community is taking steps to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

To highlight: School is in session tomorrow, Friday, March 13. Schools will be closed from Monday, March 16 through Monday, March 30.

We recognize the magnitude of these decisions and pledge to provide clear and frequent communication to help you navigate these changes. Expect an email with details tomorrow.

The Glenview-Northbrook Coronavirus Task Force has made the decision that all Northfield Township school districts, as well as Northbrook and Glenview Park Districts and Public Libraries, will close at the end of the day, Friday, March 13, and remain closed until at least March 30.

The safety, health and well being of the citizens of our community are the priority in making this decision. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) continue to encourage prevention measures and caution. We are closing as a public health precaution, in response to the recommendations from the CDC and the Illinois Department of Public Health to avoid crowds in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Schools will be open tomorrow, Friday, March 13, for a regular day of learning and to ensure that students have the devices, materials, and instructions from teachers to prepare for online learning. Libraries and park districts will be open tomorrow as well. Parents will learn more in emails from their school district tomorrow. The libraries and park districts will also be sending out additional messaging with more details to their users.

We will evaluate the situation before Monday, March 30 to determine the status in our community moving forward and share plans with you. As communicated previously, all non-essential events, programs, and activities will remain canceled until April 5.

Meals & Food Pantry

School districts will share information with their families directly about access to meals while schools are closed. The Northfield Township and Maine Township food pantries are up and plan to remain open.

Here is information about those services:

  • If families have trouble coming in for their shopping trips, they should contact their food pantry

  • If there is confusion about which food pantry you are eligible for, go to Northfield Township; they will allow you to shop once and then help you locate your pantry

Village & Voter Information

All Village services are continuing. The Villages of Glenview and Northbrook have canceled all Village Board and Commission meetings, effective immediately, through April 5. Early Voting and Election Day Voting are continuing as scheduled with increased cleaning protocols for voting equipment.
