week 1

Dear Elmore School Families,

We are off to a great start to our new school year. We had a nice turn out on Monday evening for our annual ice cream social where students and family member reunited for lots of laughs, good conversations. and smiles. Wednesday morning the doors opened at 7:30, welcoming smiling faces into the new year. Returning students and new students, alike, were excited to to be together.

Our first three days were filled with establishing routines, setting expectations and building a supportive, inclusive school community. Our theme this week was "Our Class is a Family". We read the book Our Class is a Family by Shannon Olsen. We identified all the qualities we have that make us like a family, and then students made bracelets with colored beads, each representing one of these qualities. On Thursday students created a classbook in which each students created a page to tell how our class is a family. On Friday we ended the week with some collaborative team work, where students completed 4 STEM challenges with a partner or small group. Each challenge was was based on a specific "Habit of Mind" (perseverance, optimism, creativity, and effort). Celebrating the end of our first week, students enjoyed popsicles on the playground.

Please assure that your annual e-registration has been completed. In addition, please fill out and return paperwork that was sent home in take home folders. These include annual household income forms (needed for the district to plan for upcoming budgets) and parent volunteer background check forms. which must be completed and approved prior to volunteering for any school related event.
