Updated Arrival and Dismissal Procedures Updated Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

Unfortunately, the front access to our building will not be ready for Monday. The following plans outline our revised Arrival and Dismissal plans. We anticipate using these plans for the next two weeks. I will send out communication, when we have access and can update the plans.

Arrival Procedures:

  • Bus Arrival: Busses will arrive via Olive Street and stop at the light post outside the auditorium—no further.

  • Parent Drop-Off: Parents will also enter from Olive Street and drop students off in the side lot in front of the auditorium. Please pull all the way up on Olive Street.

  • Students will enter through the side auditorium doors and proceed through the auditorium to enter the main building.

Staff Assignments:

  • Mrs. Lamothe, Mrs. Concordia and Officer Irizarry will be stationed on Olive Street to assist students, families, and bus coordination.

  • Beginning at 7:08 AM, busses will be redirected—two at a time—to Sterling Street for drop-off at the cafeteria doors.

  • Mr. Altland will support student entry on Sterling Street.

  • Mr. Sterious and Ms. Confer will supervise students inside the cafeteria upon entry.

Note: This process will take some time—thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation.

Breakfast:

  • The 7th and 8th grade breakfast cart will be located in the cafeteria hallway (not on the main floor).

  • The 6th grade breakfast cart will remain on the third floor as planned.

Dismissal Procedures:

  • At 2:08, Walkers will be released to the cafeteria exit on Sterling Street. If your student is a walker, please have a written note (or send an email to Ms. Russum at russuma@casdschools.org) stating they have your permission to walk. It can be for all year or for specific dates, but it needs to have your student's name and your signature.

  • At 2:10, Parent Pick-Up will be called to the cafeteria. This is a change from last year. Students will be picked up on Sterling Street. Mrs. Diehl and Mrs. Hamilton will be supporting students and families. Please have your student's name written on a paper that you can show to make this process go quicker.

  • Parents that are picking up students on Sterling Street, please do not drive through Olive Street to get to Sterling Street as busses will be dismissing at the same time.

  • Busses will line up on Olive Street, and starting at 2:10, students will be called—two busses at a time—to exit through the auditorium and board via the side door.

    Staff Assignments:

    • Mr. Altland will be stationed outside the auditorium doors.

    • Mrs. Lamothe and Ms. Almarez will be inside the auditorium supporting students.

I appreciate your flexibility and understanding as we adjust to the circumstances.

Also, I would like to assure you that due to the inability to access our front doors, we have updated our evacuation plans as well. Staff and students will be reviewing expectations and procedures as we adapt to ensure everyone's safety.

As we prepare for the upcoming school year, we want to ensure that all students are equipped with the tools they need to succeed. Below is a recommended supply list for middle school students. It is also located on our website.

Please label your child’s items when possible, especially personal belongings. We encourage families to check supplies quarterly and restock as needed. If your family needs assistance with supplies, please reach out to our main office—we're here to help.

We look forward to a fantastic school year ahead!

Cell Phone Lockers Purchased to Support Our Expectation of "Off and Away" Cell Phone Lockers Purchased to Support Our Expectation of "Off and Away"

As many of you know, our cell phone policy at Scott is “Off and Away.” In alignment with this policy, we’re excited to introduce cell phone lockers in our classrooms this year—an approach that has been successfully implemented at the Intermediate High School over the past two years.

These lockers will serve as a supportive tool to help students meet the expectation of keeping cell phones off and out of sight during the school day. There is extensive research highlighting the negative impact of cell phone use on student learning, and our goal is to ensure every student is positioned to achieve their full academic potential.

Here’s how it will work:
Each classroom will have a designated cell phone locker. Students will be expected to place their phones in the locker upon entering class and retrieve them as they leave. If a student chooses not to use the locker and is found using their phone during class, a detention will be assigned. Continued issues may result in more serious consequences, such as requiring the phone to be stored in the main office locker at the start of the day and picked up at dismissal.

We wanted to share this information with you in advance so you can help your student prepare for this shift.

We understand that middle school students often believe they can use their phones during the day, but at Scott, we’re committed to the idea that “We enter to learn and leave to achieve.” Cell phones can be a significant distraction, and this system is one way we are setting our students up for success—both academically and socially.

Thank you for your continued support as we work together to create an environment focused on learning and growth.

Summer Reading Assignment Summer Reading Assignment

Middle School students are expected to read a book over the summer. Students should read a novel and complete either the assignment for a fiction or nonfiction book, based on their selection. Many of the book selections are available through the MackinLibrary app which can found on their Clever pages of their school Chromebooks.

This summer assignment will count as a homework grade for their ELA classes in September. Their ELA teachers may provide a test and/or project connected to the summer reading. Any support you may offer your student in completing this task would be greatly appreciated.

Donated gently used or new clothes, especially pants , would be greatly appreciated by the nurse.

Dear Families,

My name is Ann Keenan, I am the school nurse at Scott Middle School. As your child’s school nurse, I am responsible for the health needs of your child during the school day. Please let me know if there are any health concerns or accommodations needed for your student to access their education. Good communication is the best way to provide a safe and healthy school environment.

The Pennsylvania Health Department requires all 6th grade students to have a physical examination for school attendance. The physical should include a health history, immunizations, scoliosis screening, as well as the annual growth and vision screenings. Also, all 7th grade students require a dental form to be handed in.

Please visit your family doctor to complete your student’ physical, update immunizations and renew medication requests, if needed. All physicals should be submitted by the end of winter break. Any medication required in school must have proper paperwork completed and delivered to school by an adult. Students are not allowed to carry any medication without approval.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Take care.

Ann Keenan RN

If your child needs medication 2025-2026 school year, please remember the following:

** All medication must be in a labeled container from the store. All prescriptions must be in a labeled container from the pharmacy with the student’s name on and correct dose. (In the case of an inhaler, it must be in the box from the pharmacy or be accompanied by a doctor’s note.)

** All medication must have a note from the parent/ guardian

** Any changes in dosage need to be in writing. If it is a prescription medication, we must have a note from the doctor. (We can only give medication according to the store label or doctor’s orders.)

** All medication needs to be transported by an adult.

Additional Reminders:

  1. All 6th grade students will require a Physical exam by their own health care provider by Winter Break

  2. All 7th grade students will require a Dental exam by their own dental care provider by Winter Break.

  3. Any 7th grade students without updated immunizations (Tdap and Meningitis) risk exclusion from school. Multiple notices were sent to students who are out of compliance for 7th grade attendance, the last mailed in June. There are approximately 80 students who need to submit proof of immunization.

  4. If your student needs medication in school, please have their doctor complete the medication form and have an adult bring the medication to the school nurse.
