Live Life Off-Leash

Live Life Off-Leash
Live LifeOff-Leash

Hello Viz Whizzers, Hello Viz Whizzers,

Summer’s here, and we have some amazing news to kick things off: every single dog bar one featured in our last newsletter has found a forever home! (And a few more lucky pups who didn’t even get a chance to be featured.) Huge cheers for Maverick, Bella, Jet & Gunner, Rusty, Darrow, Donnie, Buck, Lily, and Leila. Each of these dogs now gets the fresh start they deserve—thanks to the incredible support of our Viz Whizz community.

We’re also thrilled to announce our new partnership with Fi Dogs. Every dog adopted through us will receive a free Fi collar and a six-month subscription—so they’ll never wander too far. Plus, we’re microchipping all our rescues with the Fi Nano, so we can track our dogs and it is free to register and update forever, with zero hidden fees. Here’s a wild stat: only 5% of US dogs are microchipped, and over half of those chips are never even registered. We’re determined to flip that script for our pups.

And there’s more: we’ve teamed up with Embark Vet to offer you exclusive discounts on their dog DNA tests. Just pick your test, select our rescue from the dropdown, and you’ll help support our mission with every purchase. Check it out here: https://tinyurl.com/59dcrmab

We have two special dogs who still need us—Lily is set for major surgery on Tuesday, July 8th, and Mila is getting ongoing care in foster, with vet visits and special baths to heal her skin. Scroll down for details on how you can support them.

There are many more wonderful dogs waiting for their own families, so please take a moment to read the rest of our newsletter and spread the word. We’re happy to adopt out of state, too—every share counts! For all the latest on our rescue adventures, swing by our Facebook page. Your support is what makes this possible, and we couldn’t ask for a better community to be in our corner.

Thanks for being part of our mission,

Nicky Monahan - Founder, Viz Whizz Dogs & President of VWD Rescue.

HELP LILY GET HER SURGERY

Lily is one of the 13 breeding Vizslas we rescued and the last to find her forever home. Before she can be rehired, she needs our help. Lily is around 8 or 9 years old and definitely the most senior of all the females we rescued. She has been through a lot, and now she’s facing her toughest challenge yet—multiple tumors along both sides of her mammary chains. Some of these masses are as large as 3 centimeters, and one has even started to break through her skin, causing her real discomfort. Her foster mom noticed the older lumps, but the newest, ulcerated one seems to be bothering Lily more each day.

Tests show these lumps are likely cancerous, and surgery is the only way to give Lily a real chance at a healthy, happy retired life. She so deserves this. Thankfully, her overall health is good. She’s alert, friendly, still loves her walks, and is not in pain right now. Her heart and lungs sound strong, and her energy is good for her age. But the clock is ticking—these tumors need to come out.

The plan is to remove all the tumors in one surgery, scheduled for July 8th, 2025. This is a major operation, but Lily’s vet believes she’s a good candidate because she has extra skin from her years as a mom. Lily deserves the chance to enjoy her new life, free from pain. We can’t do this without your support. Every donation, no matter the size, helps cover the cost of her surgery and post-op care.

Please consider helping Lily get the second chance she deserves. Our estimate is $4,800.

HELP MILA GET HER COAT BACK

“Mila” - Houston, Tx. Stray found, is now safe, and with our amazing foster getting lots of love, no more outdoor living and regular feedings. We’re getting her into to see the vet asap for vaccines, heartworm test and most importantly get help with her skin.

Yesterday she went back to the vet, and they’ve confirmed three more skin bacteria organisms, which means she now has to have bleach baths and more medication. We’re still holding off on vaccines so her body can fight these infections. I can’t thank our amazing foster enough. Taiwo T. Bolatiwa has gone above and beyond for this sweet girl. She’ll be staying with her a little longer and once stable we’ll be putting her up for adoption but for now her recovery is our main priority

Donations to Viz Whizz dogs Rescue play a crucial role in helping our fast dogs and foster families. Every dollar contributed helps provide essential care, and a loving environment for dogs that have been abandoned or neglected. The year we have already helped place 72 dogs in new homes, many of whom had been turned away by other rescues.

Jet & Gunner adopted together

Sharing more good news as Jett & Gunner get adopted and rehomed together. These are never easy homes to find but we did and we’re so grateful to their new family. The boys will now have an older sister and learn that it’s okay to snuggle on the bed. We look forward to following their adventures.

Buck gets a new home

Adoption day for BUCK! After a 6 month journey with foster and trainer Kim at Working Dog Ranch LLC in Virginia, Buck was finally ready to leave and join his new family in Michigan.

I can’t thank Kim enough for her dedication and love that has made Buck the dog he is today. Working with fear and reactivity are always hard but she’s set him up for success.

To Kristi our amazing transporter - we can’t thank you enough for helping and driving Buck. This would’nt have been possible without you, we truly appreciate you.

Ryan we are over the moon happy this has finally all worked out & as you also said goodbye to your special boy Chase, we hope Buck helps heal your heart and you start making new memories together

Maverick's home was worth the wait

"I knew Maverick was the boy I was looking for when I saw his picture the very first time. I was hiking the PCT and hoped he would be available when I finished in May. After flying to TX where my husband picked me up we drove to Dallas and met Maverick for the very first time and brought him home to TN. He is the perfect hiking companion living his best life on Norris Lake and getting to experience mountain life. There are so many adventures ahead for this sweet ole boy! It’s has been 6 weeks and we just love him!". We have loved following Mavericks adventures and the dedication Linda has put into training and giving this boy the best 2nd chance. The right home is worth the wait.

Rex - Dallas, TX Rex - Dallas, TX

zoom_out_map

Meet Rex, (Dallas, Tx), a 10-month-old male GSP-mix weighing in at 53 pounds, neutered & up to date on vaccines. Rex is a sweet, affectionate pup who’s looking for a new home through our Viz Whizz Dogs rescue program after recently being adopted. His current family is heartbroken to let him go, but Rex struggles with separation anxiety and is deaf, so he really needs someone who can be around for him most of the time.

Rex is housebroken, and does great both on and off leash. He enjoys car rides, gets along well with other dogs, and is totally unfazed by thunderstorms or trips to the vet. He sleeps in a dog bed or your bed, loves being allowed on furniture, and is generally a happy companion. He might even enjoy swimming — they just haven’t had the chance to find out yet! While Rex does need some training & hand signals taught (he can jump up on people and gets a little nervous and barky around new faces in his home), he’s never aggressive — just unsure. He thrives on companionship and would do best with someone who’s home a lot and can offer him the love and stability he craves. His current owner is committed to making this transition as easy as possible for Rex. If you have room in your heart and home for a loyal, gentle dog who just wants to be by your side, Rex could be the perfect companion for you.

Lily - Saledo, TX - ADOPTED Lily - Saledo, TX - ADOPTED

zoom_out_map

One of the sweet breeding dogs we rescued. She'll be ready for her new home after her surgery. Sweet and gentle 8/9-year-old Vizsla with a calm spirit and a heart full of love. Lily has spent all of her years as a breeding dog, and now she’s ready for the next beautiful chapter of her life: a quiet, caring home where she can truly relax and be part of a family.

Lily is fully house trained. She enjoys slow walks, soft beds, and just being near her people. She’s looking for a peaceful, patient home—ideally without too much hustle and bustle—where she can feel safe, loved, and cherished in her golden years. She does well with other dogs, but no young or crazy puppies for her.

If you’re looking for a loyal, low-key companion with plenty of love to give, Lily might be your perfect match.

Blue - Bulverde, TX (Adopted) Blue - Bulverde, TX (Adopted)

zoom_out_map

Meet Blue — a 7.5-year-old male Vizsla, Bulverde Tx, weighing in at a solid 65 pounds, neutered, and ready for his next adventure. No young children - he has started nipping.

This sweet, energetic boy is happiest when he’s outside: running, swimming, playing ball, or just riding shotgun in the car. He’s great with other dogs, loves being bathed, and is crate trained. Blue knows his basics—sit, stay, come, and “this way”—e-collar trained and is always eager to please, though he’s got a stubborn streak that keeps life interesting.

Blue is loving and loyal, the kind of companion who never wants to leave your side. He’s never tried to run away, and he’ll always be there to greet you with a wagging tail. He’s smart, and happiest when he’s part of the action—whether it’s boating, fishing, hunting, or just hanging out.

He does have some quirks: Blue can be jumpy with people, and has shown some separation anxiety. He’s recently become more protective and displayed some aggression—he snapped at their young 1 year old child and a babysitter when she pulled on his collar. They believe this is mostly due to the stress of a big life change (new baby, new house and small yard having lived on a ranch, no exercise). He’s always been the first baby, but with the shift in their family, it’s clear he needs a home where he can feel comfortable and secure again. This is a heartbreaking decision for the family, but they want him to have the best life possible.

Ruby & Milo - Newton, MA (adopted) Ruby & Milo - Newton, MA (adopted)

zoom_out_map

Introducing Ruby (11) and Milo (an inseparable pair looking for a new home - location Boston, MA).

RUBY is an 11-year-old female Vizsla, 62 pounds, full tail. Ruby is spayed, housebroken, and a big girl—strong but very manageable, especially with a front-clip harness. At home, she’s calm and relaxed, happy to lounge on the furniture or sleep in your bed (or your kid’s bed). She’s extremely devoted to her humans and is especially gentle with babies. Now that she’s older, she’d do best with kids who understand and respect dogs.

RUBY gets along well with male dogs. She’ll bark to let you know someone’s at the door but settles quickly once things are calm. Ruby thrives on attention and loves nothing more than playing ball and retrieving; she’d do it for hours if she could, so you’ll need to help her set some limits (especially on hot days, since she has a well-managed heart condition). Ruby rides well in the car, does great at vet visits. Ruby’s food is a big deal to her—she eats quickly and enthusiastically. She’s been on a special Hills Prescription Diet for past allergies. She’s on a few daily medications: Sotalol (for a mild arrhythmia, which is fully controlled), Apoquel (for allergies), and Prion (just to prevent leaky bladder issues—no problems when she’s on it). She takes her meds very easily, either with food or gently by hand.Ruby is well trained and listens well, though she can get excited and jump up when greeting people—she calms down quickly when asked. Ruby is a loyal, loving, protective family dog who brings tons of joy to everyone she meets.

MILO is an 8 year old vizsla, 58lbs, neutered – a lovable, goofy boy and from the start, it’s clear he’s got a huge heart and a few quirks that make him unforgettable. Milo’s happiest moments are spent off leash, dashing around at top speed and soaking up the world (he’s got a real thing for chasing bunnies and squirrels). He’s an escape artist by nature, so he wears a Fi GPS collar just in case he decides to go adventuring. His fence is about 5’7”, and that’s enough to keep him safe, but he’s always got his eye on what’s happening outside. He’s great with people of all ages, but we think Milo would do best in a home with older kids or adults. A social butterfly around other dogs—never dominant, always friendly, and loves to meet new canine pals. He’s housebroken, crate trained, and just as happy curled up in his own bed as he is snuggled under the covers with you. He’s not a big fan of car rides or nail trims (the vet handles those), but he loves tummy rubs, cuddles, and being close to his people. Thunderstorms are tough for him—he’ll shake and stick close until it passes—but he’s making big strides in managing his anxiety. Milo doesn’t resource guard and is a gentle, passive soul when it comes to food or toys. He eats twice a day, loves his dental treats, and is a big fan of anything he can chew—marrow bones are his favorite.

Milo is deeply bonded with his companion Ruby. He’s happiest with her by his side, and we’re looking for a forever home that will welcome them both. If you’re ready to add a loyal, affectionate, and delightfully quirky duo to your family, Milo and Ruby are waiting to meet you! Both dogs are in good health and uptodate on vaccines.

Dublin - Nashville, TN (adopted) Dublin - Nashville, TN (adopted)

zoom_out_map

Meet Dublin, a 2-year-old male Vizsla. Location Nashville, TN. He has a big heart and even bigger energy reserves. Weighing in at 62 lbs and neutered. Dublin’s world is all about action: whether he’s on or off leash, he’s ready to go—especially if there’s a ball involved. He’s great with other dogs, and even the vet. Thunderstorms? Not a problem. He loves children, but sometimes forgets his own size and enthusiasm, so gentle reminders help, and we would prefer a home with older children.

He’s housebroken, used to wearing his collar and leash, and is crate trained. He does pull on the leash, but he knows the basics like “heel.” Just be prepared—if left home alone too long, Dublin’s smarts and extra energy can get him into a bit of mischief. He’s allowed on the furniture, gulps his food, and sometimes jumps up to say hi. Dublin is very friendly and eager to learn. He knows commands like sit, down, wait, leave it, drop it, go pee-pee, off, and kennel. But he does have his quirks—he can resource guard his food and toys, and has growled and snapped when frustrated, especially around the kennel. A trainer believes this is mostly because he’s been cooped up more than he likes.

He’s been well cared for—microchipped, on heartworm prevention and Dublin eats Victor large breed food but, just so you know, he’s not much of a hunter. If you’re looking for a smart, trainable, and high-energy dog Dublin could be your perfect match—as long as you’re ready to keep him busy and loved.

Von - Houston, Tx Von - Houston, Tx

zoom_out_map

BIte history, not his fault. A sweet, goofy 7-year-old Vizsla who’s looking for a fresh start. Von has been a loyal family member, but after years of being poked, prodded, and climbed on by a very rambunctious young child, he finally had enough. When he was pushed past his limits, he bit — not out of malice, but because he just couldn’t take it anymore. Now, Von needs a peaceful home with owners who can respect his boundaries and let him enjoy his golden years.

Von’s a big guy at 65 pounds, neutered, housebroken, and ready for adventure. He loves being off-leash, swimming, hanging out with men and women, and snoozing on the sofa or your bed. He’s crate trained, knows how to sit and shake, and is used to wearing a collar and leash (though he does pull a bit — he’s still got some spirit in him!). He’s got a quirky side: thinks he’s a lap dog, loves to bark at neighbor dogs, and is a champion counter-surfer. He adores laying in the pool and spooning in bed. Von’s a little cautious with new people, but he warms up quickly and soon wants to be your best friend.

Von does have some quirks: he resource guards food and toys, can be reactive to other dogs, and isn’t a fan of being handled roughly. He’s bitten when overwhelmed, so he absolutely needs a home with no young kids and with people who understand dog boundaries. He’ll run up to strange dogs, bark, and then usually submit — it’s just his way of saying hello.

He’s healthy, about to start heartworm meds, and eats about 2.5 cups of food daily. He’d thrive in a home where he can relax, be a little lazy, and get all the love and respect he deserves.

Von is a fun, naughty (in the best way) senior Vizsla who just needs a second chance with the right family. If you’ve got an adult-only or teen household and want a loyal, quirky companion, Von could be your guy.
