Husky Howler
Hopper Middle School

September 2026 (Edition 1 of 2)
A message from the principal...
Dear Hopper Families,
What a great start to the year for our Huskies! I am so proud of the hard work I am seeing across our campus. Academically, our students are working hard, and our first progress report will be published this week in Home Access Center. Socially, our Huskies are building friendships and connections through our PBIS Fri-Yay events and Wednesday Connections during extended lunch. Outside of the classroom, our students are staying busy with fine arts rehearsals as well as the start of volleyball, football, and cross country seasons. It is exciting to see our Huskies showing that we are working toward our vision of becoming #1 academically, socially, and in extracurriculars!
I am also excited to share that our goal for attendance this grading period is 95%, and we are currently at 96% overall! That is something to celebrate! Remember, every period is important, and every day counts. When our Huskies are present and engaged in class, they are more successful academically. Thank you to our students, staff, and families for continuing to make attendance a priority and for helping us make this a great year at Hopper. Let's keep working together, supporting one another, and showing everyone what it means to be a #1 Husky!
Sincerely,
Dr. Felicia Hayes, Principal
Chromebooks are needed everyday at Hopper!
We kindly ask that you partner with us in making sure that your child's computer is fully charged and in their backpack each day. Students use laptops each day to extend their learning, to take tests, complete labs and assignments, and as a calculator aid in 8th grade math, etc. If your child's laptop is not working, please contact Ms. Karen Nixon, our Academic Achievement Specialist by emailing her at karen.nixon@cfisd.net or by calling 281-463-5353. She can work with your child in putting in a DASH ticket for our computer technician to look at.
Chromebook Chargers
Many of our classrooms do not have extra chargers to lend to students whose computer batteries are not fully charged. If you would like to purchase an additional charger (one for home and one for your child's backpack to use in case of emergencies), you may email Ms. Karen Nixon at karen.nixon@cfisd.net and she get it added to your child's school cash account to purchase. The district does charge $30 for replacement and additional chargers. Parents have also let us know that there are sometimes sells on Amazon on these chargers too, so if you prefer to look into something like that, we have put the charger's description in the picture to the left. Third party chargers do not have insurance on them, so if they break or stop working, we cannot help in anyway, so please note that before purchasing from a third party vendor.
Virtual Title 1 Parent Meeting - Tuesday, September 22nd
Join us on zoom for a virtual Title 1 parent meeting on Tuesday, September 22nd at 11:00am.
Next FRI-YAY Event - September 25th
At Hopper Middle School, we recognize and reward our students for demonstrating our PACK behaviors—being Prepared, Accountable, Cooperative, and Kind. Instead of using paper currency like Husky Bucks, we use a digital “bank account” through PBIS Rewards. With just the click of a button, our staff can easily award students points for positive behaviors and choices. Students can then use their points to “purchase” rewards and experiences, such as our upcoming Fri-Yay Pep Rally! This system makes recognizing positive behavior quick, easy, and meaningful while giving our students something exciting to work toward.
This month, we are focusing on being accountable and getting to class on time. Students will earn PBIS reward points from their teachers for being on time. Students who have a low amount of tardies and purchase a ticket with their PBIS points will join us on September 25th for fun in the gym during our extended 7th period.
Texas Law Prohibiting Personal Communication Devices in School
A Texas law, House Bill 1481, prohibits students from using personal communication devices (i.e. cell phones, tablets, head phones, and smartwatches) on school property during school hours. If students should bring these items to school they must be stored in their backpack and "away for the day."
From the Counseling Corner...
Guidance lessons will take place through our PE and athletics classes September 8th - 11th. We encourage you to speak to your Husky about these lessons. Should you have any questions, feel free to reach out to our counselors.
Food and Drinks
At Hopper Middle School all students receive free breakfast and free lunch. Students may still bring their own lunch or snacks to eat in the cafeteria during these designated times as well. However, no food or drinks (exception of water) may be consumed in the classrooms or hallways.
If your child is bringing a water bottle, it must be plastic and have a leak-proof screw on top. Stanleys and Owalas are not permitted on campus.
Help us to keep free breakfast and lunch for all students by completing this form...

Successful Grades = Successful Attendance
Every Day Counts!
Regular attendance is essential to your child’s academic success. Each day at school provides important instruction, opportunities to practice new skills, and meaningful connections with teachers and classmates. Texas requires students to attend at least 90% of the days a class is offered to receive credit or a final grade. Please help your child start the year strong by arriving on time and attending school every day possible. When students are present, they are better prepared to learn, grow, and succeed!
Be Present to Win!
We are kicking off the school year with an attendance incentive! Students who are present in second period every day during the first week of school will be entered into a prize drawing. We will hold another drawing during the second week for students who are present in second period every day that week.
Each week, we will draw:
- Three 6th-grade students
- Three 7th-grade students
- Three 8th-grade students
Come to school every day for your chance to win!
