From Our Assistant Principal From Our Assistant Principal

Marshall Families,

The school year is officially in full swing, and what an exciting start it has been! Since Day One, our Marshall Mustangs have been learning, growing, building relationships, and showing us what it means to be a leader everywhere they go. Our students also had the opportunity to meet our leadership team and start the year strong!

Our Marshall Leader Expectations

At Marshall, we believe we are leaders everywhere we go! Our students are learning and practicing our LEADER expectations each day and throughout our campus:

L – Listen Actively
E – Encourage Others
A – Act Responsibly
D – Demonstrate Respect
E – Engage in Learning
R – Reach for Excellence

These expectations help guide how we learn, interact with others, and represent our Marshall community every day.

This Week: Assessment & Growth

Students will begin diagnostic assessments that will help us understand where they are academically so we can identify their strengths, areas for growth, and the supports they may need throughout the school year. This data will help our teachers plan instruction, identify students who may benefit from additional support or interventions, and continue growing every student from their individual starting point.

Stay Connected With Us!

Please be sure to check back each week for our Marshall Family Smore! We will use it to highlight what's happening across our campus, celebrate student and staff successes, reflect on the week, and share the fun moments that make our Marshall community special.

Thank you for partnering with us as we make this a successful school year. We are excited about what is ahead and can't wait to see our Mustangs continue to LEAD, learn, grow, and reach for excellence!

August Focus: Start With Hello

7 Habits Connection: Habit 6 – Synergize

We’re heading into our second week of school, and this is a great time to continue building positive relationships and helping every student feel like they belong!

Throughout August, we are celebrating Start With Hello, an initiative that encourages students to notice others, reach out, and help everyone feel seen and included. Something as simple as saying “hello,” inviting someone to join in, or sitting with someone new can make a big difference.

Throughout the month, students are also practicing Start With Hello during guidance lessons by getting to know their school counselor and learning more about their classmates. These activities give students opportunities to make connections, find things they have in common with others, and practice simple ways to help everyone feel welcome and included at school.

This connects to Habit 6: Synergize, which reminds us that we are better together! When students welcome others, appreciate differences, and work together, they help create a stronger and more caring school community.

Start With Hello Spirit Week! August 24–28

Get ready to help us celebrate Start With Hello with a week of fun dress-up days!

Each week, we will be shining the spotlight on our amazing Marshall Leadership Academy staff members! Our staff plays such an important role in the success of our students, and we want our families and community to get to know the incredible people who serve our Mustangs each day. Through our Staff Spotlight, you’ll learn a little more about the people who make Marshall a special place to learn, grow, and lead!

1. What inspired you to become an educator?

I was inspired to become an educator because I grew up surrounded by educators who made a lasting impact on my life. Their encouragement, patience, and dedication showed me the difference a teacher can make in a child’s life. I wanted to make that same kind of impact through the lives of my students by creating a safe, loving, and encouraging environment where they can learn, grow, and feel confident in who they are.

2. What do you love most about being a Marshall Mustang?

I love being part of such a supportive school family!

3. What is one thing you want every student to know about you?

I want every student to know that I am here to help them learn, grow, and become the best version of themselves. I will always encourage them to try their best, ask questions, and never be afraid to make mistakes.

4. What is one goal you have for your students this school year?

My goal is for every student to grow in independence, confidence, and foundational academic skills while building a love for learning.

5. Tell us something people might be surprised to learn about you.

People might be surprised to learn that I have a passion for baking! Outside of the classroom, I enjoy creating sweet treats to give to family and friends as well as trying new recipes.

💬 We are so glad to have you on the Marshall team, Ms. Thompson! Thank you for helping our students grow in confidence and learn to explain their mathematical thinking. We’re excited to see the impact you’ll make this year!

1️⃣ What inspired you to become an educator?

“I come from a family of educators and life-long learners. My mom taught elementary school for over 30 years. My dad was a high school science teacher. My sister is currently a homebound teacher for students unable to attend school.”

2️⃣ What do you love most about being a Marshall Mustang?
“I love when former students come back to visit and reminisce with former teachers.”

3️⃣ What is one thing you want every student to know about you?
“You might not be my student, but I am your teacher and I care about you.”

4️⃣ What is one goal you have for your students this school year?
“Grow in wisdom, knowledge and leadership.”

5️⃣ Tell us something people might be surprised to learn about you.
“When I was 8 years old, my dad challenged me to become a ham radio operator. So, I took the classes, passed the exams, and at 8 became one of the youngest licensed ham radio operators in the world. My original given call sign was KB4AIW. When I progressed through the courses and programs, my call sign changed to KB4AEV, which I still have today.”

🐴 Thank you, Mrs. Johnson, for bringing your passion for learning, leadership, and service to Marshall Leadership Academy! We are grateful to have you helping our Mustangs grow in wisdom, knowledge, and leadership.

Visitor parking is available in the main parking lot located directly in front of the school's main entrance.

All visitors must enter through the Front Office (Door 1). Please ring the doorbell located to the right of the entrance doors and stand directly in front of the camera with your government-issued photo ID ready. The camera is used to verify your identity before you are granted access to the building. While business will not be conducted through the intercom, staff may ask a few questions to better assist you.

Campus Safety Procedures

To help ensure a safe learning environment for all students and staff, please note the following:

  • All visitors must ring the doorbell and present a government-issued photo ID before entering the building.

  • Visitors will be asked to present their photo ID again in the front office, where it will be scanned through our electronic visitor management system to print a visitor badge.

  • Visitor badges must be worn and visible at all times while on campus.

  • All exterior doors are routinely monitored and secured. As required by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), campuses conduct and document weekly exterior door safety checks.

  • All students and staff are required to wear an ID badge while on campus. If a student loses their badge, a replacement badge will be ordered through the district at a cost of $4.00.

  • Campus safety drills are conducted monthly to ensure students and staff are prepared for emergency situations and that accountability procedures are followed.

  • For the safety and supervision of all students, students may not be signed out after 3:00 PM.

See Something? Say Something.

If you observe a safety concern or have questions regarding campus safety, please contact Marshall Leadership Academy at 972-522-7200.
