Springmill STEM Family Newsletter

Principal's Message
STEM Family,
We are in the single digits! NINE days of school left. Tomorrow is our last Monday!
The kids had an absolute blast this week bowling at Lex Lanes! The staff at the bowling alley complimented us on how well our students behaved as well. It is a very special trip for our kids and our teachers to celebrate the year and we are lucky to be able to provide it thanks to the fundraisers we do each year.
This week is the 2nd annual Peace on My Block event at Arlin field at 5:15pm - 9:30pm. This event is put on by MCS Malabar Intermediate as a way to bring the community together. There will be rides, bounce houses, food trucks, community partners and fireworks at the end of the evening.
Because of the late night for this event, the school will be on a 2 Hour Delay on Friday May 23rd! When we learned of this, we realized we needed to move our field day, so it will either be on Tuesday May 27 or Wednesday May 28, depending on the weather forecast.
Please keep reminding your students that our behavior expectations are in place all the way through the end of the year! That means we continue to expect students to bey Respectful, Responsible and Safe all the time.
This week the 6th Graders have come up with their own ideas for Theme Days as one of their last "acts" as the leaders in the building. See the flyer below to know what we will be wearing each day this week!
Sincerely,
Cara Will, principal
Springmill STEM Earns State of Ohio STEM Designation
Springmill STEM was original granted its STEM Designation by the State of Ohio in 2017 based on a set of standards that were put into law by The Ohio STEM Committee, Ohio STEM Learning Network and the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce. STEM and STEAM education is an integrated approach to innovative teaching and learning where rigorous academic concepts are learned through real-world, problem-based experiences. The Ohio STEM and STEAM School Designation was created to award and recognize schools that are exemplars of this work.
After significant increases in the requirements to meet to be designated as a STEM school since the original designation were put into place, Mansfield City Schools applied for continued designation in 2022. Over the past 3 years, the school has worked tirelessly to meet the new requirements in STEM education. On May 12, 2025, the Ohio STEM Committee voted to grant our continued designation as a STEM school through May 2030.
This would not have been possible without the commitment of our staff to learn STEM methods of teaching, which go above and beyond that of a traditional classroom. Additionally, it required the support of the district, providing us with extra time for professional development in these areas.
The result of this work is that we will continue to provide Mansfield City with an educational option that offers students the opportunity to discover and learn, pursue a fulfilling post-high school path and to become resilient, lifelong learners who contributes to society.
