Principal's Message
Hiteon community,
What a wonderful start to the month! We were thrilled to hold our all-school assembly focused on Inclusion, celebrating what makes every student unique and valued in our community. The highlight was definitely the performance by our talented Fourth and Fifth Grade Choir. It was truly amazing to see their joy and talent on display!
We continue our dedicated focus on academic achievement through our monthly Data Team Meetings. These sessions are where teachers collaborate to analyze student data and strategize next steps.
Last month, our teams dove deep into Math data and began implementing new strategies to differentiate instruction, ensuring every student is supported exactly where they need it.
This month, we are focusing the same energy on Literacy data, ensuring our reading and writing instruction is personalized and effective across all grade levels.
We want to sincerely thank our families for your incredible support. Your partnership is vital to their success and makes our staff feel valued every single day. We couldn't do this without you!

🔔 In the Door by 7:44 AM! 🔔
Why 7:44? Because at 7:45 am, the learning fun begins! Being in the classroom by 7:44 means your child is ready to roll when the bell rings. Every Minute Matters! Arrive on time = start the day with a smile. No rushing, no missing morning fun. Builds habits that help kids shine for a lifetime.
Tips to Beat the Clock: Pick out clothes and pack backpacks the night before. Set an earlier “leave the house” time than you think. Try to be on campus by 7:35 am for a calm start.
Please note that the doors will close at 7:45 a.m., and students arriving after this time will be counted as tardy. Let’s make mornings smooth and start every day strong!

Hiteon Social Worker's Mrs. Spooner's Corner
We are just three weeks away from winter break and I'm reaching out to share with you about current efforts to support our families in need this season.
I've created an Amazon Wish List Hiteon Elementary Winter Support Wish List that includes games, arts & crafts supplies, and other items that will help make sure all of our families are able to stay connected and engaged with one another over winter break. Items purchased will be shipped directly to the school and distributed to families before winter break. Items will need to be purchased by December 12th in order to make sure we can get them to families before break starts.
Here's how you can help!
Please let me know if you have any other suggestions for items not already on this list that would be enjoyed by your students and that also promote connection and engagement (think items that the whole family can benefit from, such as board games, crafting supplies, and that are multilingual friendly).
Please share this list with anyone in your community who may be in a position to help Hiteon families this season.
If you know of students or parents who are asking for help with holiday gifts, please feel free to send them my information so I can connect with them.
I appreciate all of your help in making sure all of our students and families feel some joy this winter break! Please feel free to reach out with any questions.
Warmly,
Rachel Spooner, LCSW

🐨 Teddy Bear Clinic Comes to Hiteon 🐼
The BSD Health Careers students are excited to bring the Teddy Bear Clinic program to Hiteon's kindergarten and first-graders. The Teddy Bear Clinic is a fun and educational opportunity where young students learn about health care and wellness through hands-on activities—using their own stuffed animals as “patients.”
This is a great opportunity for Health Careers students to use some of their basic patient assessment and first aid skills, encouraging teamwork and boosting confidence as they interact with younger students in a nurturing role. On the flip side, elementary students learn about basic healthcare practices and first aid in a fun and engaging way to reduce anxiety about visiting doctors or clinics. This is also a great way for young students to create stories and situations/injuries for their teddy bears, promoting creativity and storytelling.
The goal is to provide a teddy bear to each student to be used in the clinic, and then this bear may be taken to a doctor’s office to provide comfort and mitigate fear. A $10 donation supports one student with one bear. How many students will you be able to support?
Thank you for continuing to support this meaningful and memorable program!
If you are able to donate, please visit the BEF donation page at this link DONATE NOW

Volunteer Check-In Requirements
It has come to our attention that there’s a need for clarification regarding school volunteers and whether they are required to sign in through the Raptor kiosk. In short, the answer is YES.
While volunteers may use the Raptor Safe app to sign up for events in advance, this action does not constitute official check-in upon arrival. Signing up through the app simply indicates intent to participate, it does not sign them into the event. This distinction is critical for two key reasons:
Mandatory Sex Offender Screening: The real-time background check is only triggered when a volunteer checks in at the on-site Raptor tablet kiosk. Without this step, the required screening doesn’t occur.
Emergency Accountability: If a volunteer is not signed in through the kiosk, the school has no record of their presence on campus. This poses a serious risk in the event of an emergency where accurate headcount and location tracking are essential.
Every volunteer must physically check in at the kiosk each time that they arrive on campus. This is the only way to ensure compliance with safety protocols and to maintain a secure environment for our students and staff.

👚 Lost & Found 👕
Please check out the lost and found before Winter Break
Please have your child(ren) take a look at the Lost & Found carts if they are missing items (sweatshirts, jackets, hats, water bottles, lunch boxes, etc). You are also welcome to stop by the school to take a look. The carts are located near the front office by the restrooms and will also be brought out behind the school most Fridays at dismissal.
Items labeled with your student’s full name (or last name and first initial) are easily returned to their owner in the classroom. It brings us so much joy to reunite a lost item with its owner. 😀 If you haven’t already, please take a moment to label your student’s items, especially those which are easily removed. Lots of clothing items now come with a specific area to write your child's name, which makes it easy to find & return to them.
Hiteon Elementary has a 30-day Lost and Found Policy. The Lost and Found carts will be cleaned out after the end of each month. Unclaimed items are donated to the Beaverton School District Clothes For Kids organization to help district families in need. Please be sure to check the cart for missing items before they are donated!

If you haven’t done so already, please reapply to be a volunteer in the Beaverton School District. We’re implementing a new volunteer management system over the summer and need time to process and complete the criminal background checks for all applicants.
Start on the Volunteer webpage on the district website. The entire process — including the review of the Child Abuse Prevention & Reporting and Adult Sexual Misconduct training materials — should take less than 10 minutes to complete.
Thank you for prioritizing our students’ safety and for your willingness to volunteer in BSD.
