Superintendent's Weekly Update

February 9, 2024
Dear Weymouth Public Schools Community,
This week was filled with celebrations, including the 100th day of school, a milestone in every school and district and a moment to reflect on our goals and progress. It’s also a great opportunity to have a little fun, and you can see some of our favorite pictures from our Elementary Schools 100th day and Lunar New Year celebrations below. Additional highlights this week include:
- WHS Girls Track Team had an outstanding day at the MSTCA Coaches Invitational, highlighted by a new meet record from Kate Carnes, Leah Glavin, Gracie Richard and Izzy Galusha. The girls are now the fastest team in Massachussetts and the 12th fastest team in the US.
- WHS Boys Basketball Senior Edric Louissaint reached the 1000 point milestone! Edric becomes only the 3rd player in Weymouth High School boys basketball history and 4th overall in our rich tradition.
- WHS Boys soccer was recognized this week for their accomplishments. This year the program qualified for its 34 consecutive state tournament with back to back appearances in the FINAL FOUR in the 2022 and 2023 seasons. During that time they compiled a 30 - 7 - 8 record, over the 45 games played they scored 95 GF and conceded only 30 GA. Holding the FF trophy for the 2022 team is Capt Alex Pineiro and for the 2023 team is captains Tyler Miller, Joe Looney, Bo Carley and Bruno Desouza.
- We also celebrated senior Bruno Desouza for being selected as a 2023 All American - he is the 1st since Drew Russo in 2001. In his all-american season he led the team and conference in scoring with 15 goals and 12 assists including GWG v KP and Ludlow in the State Tournament in route to the final four appearance. Congratulations to Bruno and the rest of the boys soccer team for their continued success.
- This week we celebrated our school counselors during National School Counselor week. We are fortunate to have dedicated guidance and adjustment counselors available to support our students and their families who provide services to help our students achieve their short and long-term personal and academic goals.
Have a great weekend, Wildcats! We look forward to seeing our students back in school on Monday.
Warm regards,
