Greetings, Warrior Families!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Fair-Day Weekend! It’s hard to believe that we’ve made it through five weeks of school and October is around the corner. Time flies when everyone’s working together to make great things happen!

The month of October will bring many events for our PHS students including PSAT for our 9th and 10th Graders, and the PSAT/NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) for our 11th graders, Red Ribbon Week and more.

It is also important to note that October brings the first UIL Eligibility check (No Pass No Play) on October 2nd, followed by the first report cards being posted in Family access on October 19th. If you have any questions regarding your student's current academic standing feel free to contact teachers with any specific questions you may have. Also, please remind you students that teachers are available for students during tutorials.

A Look Ahead

The counseling department would like to congratulate Ms. Renee Ray on being awarded The Ultimate Warrior for the month of August 2023. Students continuously speak highly of Ms. Ray and how they enjoy math because of her. Our 9th grade students who came from PRMS were excited to see a familiar, smiling face. Congrats to Ms. Ray!

She has a received a plaque made by our Graphic Design students, a free lunch donated from Borgfeld Bistro, and a free dozen donuts from Lee's Donuts!

September is National Suicide Prevention Month. To raise awareness regarding this important issue, Pieper counselors had a table set up at all three lunches this past Wednesday. Suicide is the second leading cause of death among youths ages 10-24 and rates for this age group have increased 52.2% between the years 2000-2021. Students recognized this by reflecting on the things that make life worth living! If you or someone you know is struggling, please call or text the National Suicide and Crisis Hotline at 988.

Food Pantry

We wanted to update you that a School Pantry Program will be coming to PHS for students that need weekly food assistance. If you would like more information regarding the program, please contact your student's counselor.

The counselors continued Senior meetings with Pieper 12th graders. Counselors will be reviewing credits, current classes, and plans after high school. Please reach out to your student's counselor if you have questions regarding your Senior student and planning for their post-secondary goals.

Reminder: PSAT 8/9 (9th graders) will be given on 10/4/23 and PSAT/NMSQT (10th and 11th graders) will be given on 10/11/23. These tests will be completely digital with embedded calculators, but students may bring their own approved calculator if they choose. Approved calculators can be found at: https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/psat-nmsqt/whats-on-the-test/math/calculator-use. We will be able to provide TI-Inspire calculators to 11th graders only.

The test is designed to be completed in 2 hours and 14 minutes so students will be able to go to lunch at normal times. However, if your student is receiving an accommodation of time and one-half or double time, they will be testing through lunch. Amy Bachmeyer will be sending an email to these parents giving them the opportunity to order a sack lunch to be delivered to the testing room and eaten during a break or after the test.

Please make sure your student gets a good night's sleep, eats breakfast, is on time for school and do not plan to sign them out too early. Questions can be sent to amy.bachmeyer@comalisd.org.
