THE MUSTANG MESSENGER
December 2025
Message from the Principal
During this season of celebration and family gatherings, I want to wish each of our families a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. While the school days in December are fewer in number, they are certainly filled with excitement and activities at PES!
When teachers and students return in January, we will have completed the first half of the 2025-2026 school year. We will be sending report cards home, and students will be recognized for their achievements and successes during the second nine weeks and on STAR testing.
On behalf of the entire faculty of Palmetto Elementary, thank you for entrusting us with your students each day, and thank you for a wonderful first semester. Please enjoy time with your loved ones over the upcoming holiday break.
As always, don't hesitate to let us know if you have any questions or if there is anything we can do to better support your student during their time at PES.
Brandon Koon
Principal
Reminder: Palmetto Elementary will dismiss at 11 am on Friday, December 19th.
School Report Card & Special Recognitions
Recently, the SC Department of Education released the 2024-2025 School Report Card Ratings. Palmetto Elementary received an overall rating of Average. To read more about the report card rating for PES, please follow the link below.
ELA Proficiency
We would like to recognize our third grade teachers. Last year PES's third graders had the largest proficiency increase in Anderson District One in ELA.
Highest Score
The Mustang Way - Jolly Trolley
We had another tie! Congratulations to Mrs. Ellenburg's 1st grade and Mrs. Smith's K5 classes for earning a visit from the Jolly Trolley for the month of November. As an added bonus, they were the first classes to also receive a brand new brag tag as Jolly Trolley winners. Congratulations to these students!

Emotional Bank Accounts
Emotional Bank Accounts, or EBAs, indicate the amount of trust that exists in a relationship. "Deposits" build and repair trust. "Withdrawals" break down trust. Deposits include showing things like kindness, keeping promises, setting clear expectations, and apologizing. Everyone's Emotional Bank Account is diiferent!
Family Emotional Bank Account
Bring the Emotional Bank Account into greater focus by challenging family members to identify examples of deposits at home. Discuss as a family:
- What would each member of our family consider to be a deposit?
- What would each member of our family consider to be a withdrawal?
- Does everyone in our family have the same deposits and withdrawals?
Talk about the impact that deposits and withdrawals have on each family member.
