Cyber Criminals use phishing scams to gather information, and ultimately steal money. Our district (and other districts around us) have recently been hit with a series of phishing emails.

Our Network Administrators and Technology Team have jumped to action immediately each time there has been a reported email. They have blocked the suspicious hyperlinks, sent email warnings to the entire staff, and immediately changed passwords on the affected accounts. However, despite these {heroic} efforts, THIS CYCLE WILL CONTINUE UNLESS WE ALL DO OUR PART.

Be on the lookout for

• Spelling/Grammar Mistakes and Awkward Wording
• Buttons or Links in the email (hover over them, without clicking, to see where it's actually pointing you)
• Threats that something may happen if you don't respond (ex: your account will be terminated or all of your emails will be deleted)

You might see something like this:

HINT: Emails may appear to be from someone in our district or a trusted company or site. Hover over (but do not click) the sender's name in an email or a hyperlink or button in the email to see the true source.

The example below is an example of one of the phishing emails that have circulated through our district. When hovering over the "Cancel request" button, the actual URL will appear. This should be a RED FLAG!

If you encounter a questionable email, please DO NOT click any links or open any attachments. Do not trust emails or links that ask for any identifiable personal information.

Would you give out your debit card pin number online? Don't give out your username or password either!

Contact your campus repair tech if/when you receive suspicious emails.
