Important Information
Welcome Back, Roadrunners!
All signs are pointing to an exciting and productive school year! Our dedicated staff are already planning and preparing for your child(ren). We are all excited to have students back in our classrooms and hallways, filling them with energy and enthusiasm for learning, as well as, their infectious laughter and love of life. The first day of school will be Tuesday, September 2nd. As we near the start of the school year, we wanted to provide a few quick back to school updates.
Student Placement
Our teachers do our placements and spend so much time grouping students for the following year. There was an opportunity to provide input on your student at the end of the year so we will not be moving students that have been placed. This year the Back to School Packet opened August 4th, all families must fill this out even if you are a returning family. This can be found on ParentConnect.
Placements will be released through ParentConnect on the afternoon of Friday, August 22nd. If you do not know your login information, please contact pc@brightonk12.com for assistance.
Classroom Supply Lists
We are always so appreciative of the generosity of our community, however, know that any classroom material lists are optional and all necessary items are provided by the district for all students’ success. You can find classroom supply lists on our Spencer Classroom Information under the teacher pages.
Junior Kindergarten/Kindergarten Meet and Greet
JK/K Meet and Greet is a great opportunity for students and families to banish those first day jitters by meeting the teacher and visiting the classroom. This event will be held on Wednesday, August 27th from 5:30-6:30PM.
New Student (Grades 1st - 4th) Meet and Greet
If you have a student who is new to Spencer this year (not including JK and K), feel free to join us at the JK/K Meet and Greet event on Wednesday, August 27th from 5:30-6:30PM. While 1st-4th grade teachers will not be there, you will have an opportunity to meet Principal Boyd where she will go over drop off and pick up procedures and answer any questions you may have, and you can tour the school.
Junior Kindergarten/Kindergarten First Day of School
There is so much wrapped up into the first day of school in kindergarten. A kindergarten first day is important to teachers, students, and parents! JK/K students will have an alternate schedule on the first day of school. Students will join their teachers outside at 9:30 AM and will be picked up outside at 2:30 PM. There will be no buses for JK/K on the first day of school. This includes bus transportation to after school care facilities (ie: Teddy Bear, LOL, etc...) Also note there will be no Friendship Center for the JK/K students on the first day of school as well.
Specials Enrichment Opportunity Grades K-4
Your student has the opportunity to attend a Specials Enrichment class this year. During the class, students will be able to explore and deepen their understanding of the content.
This is a multi-age enrichment class that will meet on certain days and times. Your student will be leaving their regularly scheduled class or special to attend. This is a voluntary program. If you are interested in choosing one of these offerings for your student, please complete this form.
Please fill out a form for each student you would like to participate.
Space is limited, and students will be enrolled on a first come first served basis. Please note that this scheduling change will be permanent for the remainder of the year.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your building principal. Once students are placed and the class list is determined, families will receive a welcome letter from the special's teacher.

Lunch Information
Information on the Michigan School Meals Program for the 2025-2026 school year.
In 2023-24, the State of Michigan began the Michigan School Meals Program, which provided free meals to Michigan students. As revenue decreases in the wake of the end of COVID relief funding, the legislature is debating whether to continue this program into the future. This is directly in both the Governor's and Senate versions of the budget, but the House rolled these dollars into one pot of money that could allocated at the discretion of each district.
We will continue to monitor negotiations, but breakfast and lunch will minimally be provided to all BAS students through September 30th which is when State funding for the program expires.
We will keep you up-to-date on negotiations unfold and we thank you all for your patience.
