“WE CANNOT SOLVE PROBLEMS WITH THE KIND OF THINKING WE EMPLOYED WHEN WE CAME UP WITH THEM.”

- Albert Einstein

Happy Friday, CUSD,

It’s been a great week in the district, with excitement building especially at the elementary level, for Halloween fun. We can’t wait to see the Book Character Pumpkins created by Silver Strand students next week! Our high schoolers are getting in on the spooky fun as well with the COSA Digital Arts 16th annual Horror Nights happening next Tuesday and Thursday. See details for this PG-13 appropriate event on the flyer below.

You should have received an email with the flyer announcing our Safety & Communication forum scheduled for next Thursday, October 30, 4:30-6pm. The flyer can also be found below. Please use the QR code to submit questions in advance.

Our partners at the Coronado Schools Foundation have been busy planning for the Secret Garden GALA at the DEL coming up on November 15th. While tickets for the gala itself are sold out, there are still tickets available for the Garden After Dark: After-Party which starts at 8pm, also at the Hotel del. Don’t miss this fun opportunity to support our schools!

Have a great weekend,

Respectfully,

Karl J. Mueller

Superintendent

As our educators, parents, and community come together to connect, challenge, and champion our students, we are humbled by the outpouring of compliments. What a positive testament to our CUSD family!

• Kris Collins: Nurse Kris steps up ALWAYS to ensure that all students are safe and healthy. She has a great demeanor with the children, and works SO hard, always going above and beyond.
• Kimberley Junk is a master at staffing our school each day. She plans weeks in advance, ensuring that we have coverage for staff in trainings, on leave, or vacation. She monitors Frontline first thing in the morning and before she leaves to make sure our ship's crew is complete. She devises schedules for subs which maximize their time on our campus, and the warmth with which she greets and supports guest teachers and classified crew make them want to return. The attention and efficiency she applies to staffing gives us all confidence that our students are safe and supported each and every day. Thank you, Kimberley!!
• Lindsey Cummins is a 360-degree member of the Voyager School Community: an active parent and PTO member/Jogathon Chair); a collaborative and supportive colleague (Vice President of ACT, "fun" starter); an inspiring and creative teacher (and co-teacher); Admin Designee and district committee representative (POG committee member) and MORE. She approaches each day with determination, excitement, a gleam in her eye, and humor. When she served as Admin Designee this week when I was off campus, she came up with a "Champion, Connect, Challenge" activity to help focus Superintendent Mueller's campus and classroom visits. Genius! She also dived right in to support student behaviors. Lindsey is a gust of fresh air that keeps our sails full at Silver Strand! We appreciate you!
• The SSES PTO Board Members have done an amazing job putting together events for everyone in our school community to enjoy! The amount of hard work, time and effort that they put into making these activities the best that they can be is truly commendable and they definitely have earned recognition for it.

Click here to recognize an employee or volunteer who goes above and beyond to make a difference. Those who are "caught" will receive a copy of the positive words that were shared about them and a "Caught Being Awesome" decal. Please take a minute or two to brighten someone else's day!
