Students Wanted for Video Production Club - Limit 5 Students TWO SPACES LEFT!
Veritas Media Group will host 5 students in their studio for an 11 week class on Wednesdays after school. Instructed by Lucas Holtgeerts, this class is open to students 5th grade through 8th grade.
Lucas shared this: "Students will leave the course having produced their own short documentary from beginning to end as well as the group fundraiser video and will also have a rudimentary understanding of media literacy and have the tools needed to utilize the critical literacy skills they learn in language arts classes when consuming media of all forms." Click below for the 11 Week Course Overview.
The video produced by our students will be shown during the Virtual Auction to help raise funds for the Franklin Academy.
There are only five (5) spots available and the cost is $50 per student. We will take students on a first come first serve basis. Please contact Heather Black (360) 603-8582 or hblack@thefranklin.academy

The Reading Corner with Mrs. Samuel & Mrs. Snyder
This week I’m going to answer the questions “What do I do with an overdue book? What if I lose it or damage it?”
Markell Hall library books can be returned at any time through the book drop outside the library. Robin Hall library books can be returned at anytime in the blue bin outside the library door. (and don’t worry if you drop it in the wrong one—we deliver books to each other all the time!)
If your student is in kindergarten or first grade and you aren’t sure what day their library books are due, here is Mrs. Snyder’s schedule:
Monday: Brewin
Tuesday: Yorks
Wednesday: Van Selus
Thursday: Dizon
Friday: Jorgensen
If a book is overdue, just return it! We don’t issue overdue fines. If your Markell Hall library book is really, REALLY overdue, Mrs. Samuel may hunt you down in her safari outfit and send you home with a printed overdue notice. ;) We just want as many library books available to as many students as possible!
If your book gets damaged, we can repair a mild problem, but most likely you will need to replace it. If your book is lost, you will need to replace it. You can email your librarian (Markell Hall is tsamuel@thefranklin.academy, Robin Hall is jsnyder@thefranklin.academy ) to figure out how to do that. Typically, the best way is to find a copy on Amazon—we have found that to be consistently cheaper than paying the replacement cost. Lost and damaged books happen! We teach and encourage careful book use, but we know that life happens, and Mrs. Snyder and Mrs. Samuel promise to not be mean ol’ librarians about it!
Happy Reading!

Mrs. Samuel's Favorite Joke of the Week
Why does the ghost come back to the library every day for more books?
Because she goes through them too quickly.

PALS News
Loaves and Fishes
Loaves and Fishes is a program of the Chapel Service Guild. Loaves and Fishes harnesses the power of our community to support families who are experiencing a major life event - loss of a loved one, birth of a new child, major family illness, etc. and need additional support and love from our school community. Loaves and Fishes primarily provides meals, but may expand this year to include other forms of community support.
How to get involved:
As a donor/volunteer - sign up to provide meals or other support to fellow Franklin Academy families - email pals@thefranklin.academy to join the pool of volunteers.
To report a need - email the Chapel Service Guild coordinator Christie Fankhauser ce_em_why@msn.com to report a need for your family or another family. All recipients are kept confidential, and Christie coordinates for anonymous delivery.

Scrip Coordinator
Help Wanted
PALS is seeking a volunteer to run the Scrip fundraising program. Scrip is fundraising through the purchase of gift cards. We buy them at a discounted rate, sell them at face value, and keep the difference as our profit. Our Scrip company has a brand-new app, RaiseRight, that allows for instant digital scrip purchases, that users can then immediately use for their own online or in-store purchases. We’re looking for someone willing to learn about this new app, and help adapt our program to fully embrace this new digital platform. The new coordinator will have mentorship available from 2 previous Scrip coordinators and lots of support from PALS!
Anyone interested in the above positions may contact PALS, pals@thefranklin.academy
Passport Club Coordinator
Help Wanted
The Passport Club is a beloved part of our 1-4th grade program. Due to safety restrictions, we cannot run the program as we have in the past, but we’ve found out that there’s a distance learning version of the program. We’re looking for a new coordinator to coordinate the distance-learning program for online and in-person learners. Anyone interested in taking up this role will work closely with PALS and the school to figure out how best to roll out the program to the school community. This would include, but not be limited to, passing out maps and passports to all students, coaching teachers and parents on how to access the online learning portal, and sending out monthly communication to make sure everyone has access to the monthly program links and passwords.
