Message from Mrs. Working

The year is winding down, but our campus is livelier than ever. We are enjoying having students on campus 2 days a week, and although we are unsure about whether or not there will be an opportunty for students to attend 4 days per week before the end of this year, we are grateful for the time we do have students here.

Students who attended in person on Friday and Monday received their progress reports from their 6th period teacher. Remaining progress reports are being mailed out this week. We are down to less than 5 weeks left in the school year. In the coming weeks, counselors will be reaching out to students who are being recommended for summer school. The district sent out an interest form on Saturday, April 17th, and the official summer school registration process will be starting soon.

We have many exciting things coming up this month. This week we kick off Advanced Placement Testing and we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week. On Tuesday a production company will be on campus to film/interview seniors for a keepsake video. Addtionally, our campus is scheduled to be under construction starting on May 17th. Fencing will begin going up in large areas of our parking lot and throughout campus so that the contractors can get started. Below are some renderings of what our main entrance will look like by the end of this summer! The middle photo is a rendering of the campus once the entire project is completed (by the end of summer 2022). We are incredibly grateful for the Measure A Bond and the support of VUSD to make this project happen!

Mad City Money: Parent Volunteers Needed!

On Tuesday, May 25th during fourth and fifth periods, Travis Credit Union will be hosting Mad City Money on zoom for several of the economics and math classes. We will need at least 18 volunteers (2 volunteers for each station’s breakout room on zoom) from 8:30am-11:50am.

This is a great opportunity for the students to learn about personal finance in more of a real-world type setting. If you are available to volunteer on Tuesday, May 25th, please reach out to Ms. Bernhardt at kbernhardt@vacavilleusd.org.

Mad City Money is a simulation that gives high school students a sense of adulthood with income and bills to pay. Each participant is assigned a temporary identity, including occupation, salary, debt, credit score, marital status, and children, etc. They visit nine ”merchants” in Mad City to choose housing and transportation and purchase necessities and wants. The goal is to simulate the realities of approaching financial responsibilities.

Instructions and a brief online training will be provided for volunteers prior to the activity.

Volunteer Opportunity

Attention Knights who are looking for things to add to their resume or college applications, or just students who want to do some good and give back to our community. Vacaville High School students have started a club called the Community Tutoring Program (CTP) where they tutor elementary students in Vacaville Schools. There are so many students in need of extra help that Vacaville High is hoping to partner with Buckingham students who are interested in serving the younger students in our community. All tutoring that our students would provide currently takes place over Zoom. Please contact Mr. Chappell at the email address EricC@vacavilleusd.org to find out more information about how you can help. You can also reach out to Mrs. Working and she will help put you in contact with him.
