Family Connections
#KeystoneCares: February is for Family
ATTENDANCE MATTERS
The faculty and staff of KCSD encourage parents to send their student to school everyday in order to achieve academic success!
If your student is absent, all parent excuses or medical excuses must be received by the office within 3 days after they return. Excuses can be emailed to: cmhsattendance@kcsd.k12.pa.us
If you are concerned about your student's attendance, please reach out to your student's school counselor.
Counseling Connection
SAP
If you are concerned about a student for any reason, you can make a SAP referral. The SAP referral can potentially lead to any needed services and/or supports the student may need to be successful.
CMHS School Counselors
A counselor is someone to talk to, who will listen without judgment. A school counselor can assist in short-term counseling and if needed arrange long-term counseling and the SAP (Student Assistance Program) and Tier II support. Counselors can teach students tools to improve and cope with different situations, especially because sometimes it's hard to figure out where to start. Students may be want to see a counselor for the following reasons:
- Want to share an experience/feelings
- Feel depressed and/or lonely
- Have thoughts of self-harm
- Feel stressed and/or anxious
- Feel angry and/or frustrated
- Want to improve grade(s)
- Talk about college/careers
- Relationship/peer issues/conflicts
- Personal issues (divorce/separation, loss of a loved one, etc.)
To learn more or to schedule a meeting, please contact your student's school counselor.

Family Focused February
Family and school partnerships are essential for helping students achieve at their maximum potential and while parent and community involvement has always been a cornerstone of public schools, greater recognition and support of these collaborative efforts is needed. CMHS MUSICIANS REPRESENT KCSD IN MULTIPLE HONORS ENSEMBLES
CMHS MUSICIANS REPRESENT KCSD IN MULTIPLE HONORS ENSEMBLES
Central Mountain High School musicians Kyle Haigh (front) and Camden Mann (back) prepare for the upcoming Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District 4 Jazz Band Festival, which takes place February 16-18, 2023, at Huntingdon Area High School. Kyle and Camden were selected by audition and will participate in the band along with CMHS musicians Annalise Mann and Paisley Beatty.
The District Jazz Band Festival follows on the heels of another honors music festival that included
some of central and western Pennsylvania’s top orchestra students. Paisley Beatty and Ava Grimes recently attended the PMEA District 4/6 Orchestra Festival at Somerset Area Jr-Sr High School and were stellar representatives of our school district!
Additionally, two Bucktail musicians and four CMHS musicians are preparing for the PMEA District 4
Band Festival, which is scheduled for February 9-11, 2023, at Huntingdon Area High School. Trenton Goodling, Michael Goss, Kyle Haigh, Annalise Mann, Seth Reitz, and Greg Stuber have been working hard on the challenging music for the District Band Festival.
There’s no doubt that the KCSD music department is a busy place these days, but that isn’t anything new. There is rarely a time throughout the year when students and staff aren’t tackling multiple musical goals and challenges. It’s what we do, and it makes us happy to create and recreate music. What a great thing that our music making makes so many other people happy, too!
