THE COUNTDOWN HAS BEGUN! ⌛ THE COUNTDOWN HAS BEGUN! ⌛

WE HAVE MANY ACTIVITIES AND HAPPENINGS FOR HCS EVEN BEFORE THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL.

Everything here should help you get started with prepping for August 14! There are a few corrections from my June newsletter!

1. August 1 & 2………….. City of Mascoutah Homecoming (additional info below)

2. August 4……………….. Military Families Dinner @ Camino Real Mexican Restaurant (5:30 – 7:30)

3. August 10……………… PreSchool / PreK Popsicle Party

*PreSchool (3 year-olds) and PreK (4 year-olds) will have a Popsicle Party here at school. Parents can meet each other and kids can play. (6:00 - 6:45)

*We recommend you bring all of your child's supplies and put them into the classrooms after the playground. (This will help you avoid the "craziness" of doing it at Open House).

4. August 12…………….. Family Dinner / Open House / Back-to-School Bash! (additional Info below)

5. August 14…………… First Day of School (Early Dismissal....additional info below)

6. August 17……………. First Full Day of School

7. August 21 & 22……. (21st) Fish Fry and (22nd) School Picnic

A lot of stuff here.... A lot of stuff here....

HCS FAMILIES,

Each year, Holy Childhood participates in the Mascoutah homecoming parade. We decorate a float that incorporates the parade theme, and students, parents, and staff are invited to walk alongside the float and hand out candy and flyers. This year, we will be in the 5 PM parade TOMORROW (Saturday, August 1st.) The parade theme is Stars and Stripes.

If you are interested in walking in the homecoming parade, please meet us on the parade route by 4:45 on Saturday. We will not know our exact spot until sometime that week and will communicate that information then. We generally line up somewhere near the Leu Civic Center building on N. Market St.

Everyone is welcome! Younger students must have a parent walking with them. Students are not permitted to ride the float to avoid kids jumping on and off the float. The safety of your children is our number one priority. Please wear yellow and blue or spirit wear. We will have bottled water for everyone as well as candy to hand out. Don’t forget sunscreen!

After the parade, you can be dropped off at the park or school. If you plan to pick up your older child at the park after the parade, plan to meet us past the pool on Park Drive.

Float decorating will take place in the school parking lot tomorrow morning at 9 AM. We hope to see you there!

Please contact us with questions!

BOTH ILLINOIS AND MISSOURI HAVE "SALES-TAX FREE" WEEKENDS.

Always held beginning the first Friday of August (which is next Friday, August 7), a ten-day period during which consumers can purchase certain clothing and school-related items and pay sales tax at a reduced rate. The State’s portion of sales tax due throughout the holiday is reduced by 5 percent (5.00%) from 6.25 percent (6.25%) to 1.25 percent (1.25%).

Both Missouri and Illinois participate in this incentive. Although, I believe that Missouri has a little more leniency on what items are included in the "no sales tax".

Regardless, if you are looking for the basics (clothes, shoes, classroom supplies), get to your local shopping areas early! I have included information below.

FY 2026-30, Back-to-School State Sales Tax Holiday August 7, 2026, through August 16, 2026

FY 2026-30, Back-to-School State Sales Tax Holiday August 7, 2026, through August 16, 2026

Public Act 104-0468 creates a State sales tax holiday on qualifying items effective August 7, 2026, through August 16, 2026.

We had a wonderful time celebrating God’s love and mercy in the Rainforest with 140 volunteers and 250 students! Big thank you to our Parish and HCCCW for the prayers and monetary gifts. Every year we collect for a worthy cause in our community. We were able to present a check to Without Limits Playground for $925 from our change war!

HUGE thank you to Wendy Uhl for over 20 yrs of service to our Community Vacation Bible School! She will be missed by so many children!

Dear HCS Families,

The 2026-2027 school year is right around the corner, and that means our Thursday Clubs will be starting very soon! We are excited to provide students with opportunities to explore new interests, build friendships, strengthen problem-solving skills, and discover the unique gifts God has given them.

This year’s club schedule is: Quarter 1 - Game Club

Quarter 2 - Art Club

Quarter 3 - LEGO Club

Quarter 4 - Garden Club

Access the registration form here: https://forms.gle/mE9pq4zfo6QTPThT8

If your child will be participating in Game Club during the first quarter, please be sure to have them registered as soon as possible. Game Club will begin on August 20, and we will meet every Thursday until the end of the first quarter on October 9. Additional information will be sent home before Game Club begins.

If you are interested in volunteering for any of the clubs throughout the year, please contact me via the email provided. All volunteers must be compliant with our Child Protection Policy.
