Welcome Letter

Who is Mrs. Kemperman?

  • Hello! I am Shannon Kemperman. I am your child's STEAM teacher!
  • I have been teaching in Forest Hills for 29 years! For 27 of those years, I was a fourth-grade teacher here at Meadow Brook. This year, I made the exciting transition to teaching STEAM, and I am thrilled to begin this new chapter with our students.
  • Throughout the school year, look forward to guiding your child with engaging, rigorous, and fun learning experiences.

STEAM Education

During the first three weeks of STEAM, we focused on Internet Safety and Digital Citizenship. Students learned important skills for staying safe, responsible, and respectful while using technology.

Next, we began our STEAM curriculum, Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Launch. PLTW Launch is a hands-on, project-based STEM program designed for elementary students. Rather than relying on traditional lectures and textbook tests, students are immersed in real-world challenges, design thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving. Through engaging, hands-on experiences, students have opportunities to think like scientists, engineers, and innovators. For the next 10 weeks students will be exploring the following units;

  • Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten: Pushes and Pulls
  • First Grade: Observing the Sun, Moon, and Stars
  • Second Grade: The Changing Earth
  • Third Grade: Variation of Traits
  • Fourth Grade: Energy Exploration

“Science is being inspired, technology makes the impossible possible, engineering creates something from nothing, art ignites the imagination, and math sets the path.”
