Dear Hornet Parents,

We hope this newsletter finds you well. As we move further into the school year, we want to take a moment to thank you for your continued support and partnership. Your involvement plays a vital role in creating a positive learning environment where our scholars can thrive. We appreciate the many ways you contribute, whether by encouraging good attendance, reinforcing expectations at home, or simply cheering on our school community. Together, we are building strong foundations for both academic and personal success.

As we begin this new season of learning, we want to emphasize the importance of attendance for your child's academic success and overall well-being.

  1. Attendance Matters – Regular school attendance is crucial for your scholar's educational growth and development. Scholars who attend school consistently are more likely to succeed academically and socially.
  2. Academic Achievement – Studies consistently show a strong link between good attendance and high academic performance. When scholars are present in class, they have the chance to learn and practice essential skills and knowledge required for their grade level. Missing even a few days of school can lead to gaps in learning that are difficult to overcome.
  3. Social and Emotional Development – School is not just about academics; it's also a place where children learn valuable social and emotional skills. Consistent attendance allows your scholar to form friendships, build trust with teachers, and develop a sense of belonging within the school community.
  4. Legal Requirements – It's important to remember that regular school attendance is not just beneficial; it is also a legal requirement. State law dictates that scholars must attend for 90 percent of the days a class is offered.

Key Reminders

  1. Tardy Policy – The tardy policy will be in full effect starting Monday, September 8th. Please emphasize to your scholars the importance of getting to class on time each day.
  2. School ID Requirement – Parents can help by ensuring that scholars wear their school IDs every day.
  3. Game Attendance – Beginning this school year, all K–8th grade scholars must be accompanied by an adult to attend games. Scholars will not be allowed to stay and view the game if a parent or guardian is not present with them.
  4. Personal Devices – We appreciate your support in helping us ensure that scholars are not using their personal communication devices during instructional hours (8:00 a.m.–4:05 p.m.). Once scholars exit the building, they may access their devices.

We are excited about the opportunities and experiences the school year will bring. Our dedicated team is committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment where your child can thrive.

Thank you again for your partnership in your scholar's education. Together, we can ensure that every scholar at Alice Johnson Jr. High has the best opportunity to succeed. If you have any questions or concerns about attendance or any other school-related matters, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.

Sincerely,

Jose Lopez

Principal, Alice Johnson Junior High

  • September is National Suicide Prevention month. We are aware that our hornet students want to show their pride at athletic events and we want them to attend as many as possible!

As per the new Channelview Athletic Regulations, students attending games on campus- both Elementary & Middle School must be accompanied by a supervising adult and remain seated with them at all times.

We understand that this is different from previous year, but it is important that we communicate this with you all.
