As a reminder, 1st Quarter Progress Report Grades will be visible in ParentConnect starting on Monday, October 6th. Please keep in mind that these grades are just a snapshot of your student's performance at this point in time and are impacted by a variety of factors, including missing assignments or assessments that they still have the opportunity to make up. That being said, if they need to make any type of adjustment, now is a great time to do so until 1st Quarter Grades are finalized at the end of the month.
PSAT 11 Info - This Wednesday!
The PSAT/NMSQT for our current Juniors is coming quick! The information included below are the basics for what you need to know for planning purposes:
- Juniors will take the PSAT on Wednesday, October 8th this year in the morning.
- PSAT Testing will take place in the Aux Gym and Fieldhouse (just like this past year). All other students will attend class as they normally would. Juniors have the ability to leave for the day once their testing has been completed.
- Students will receive a standalone email this week with additional testing details related to the PSAT 11. This email will include where they are supposed to report and when.
The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is structured similarly to the SAT and is a wonderful practice before the spring SAT. It has the same sections and timing, and measures the Reading and Writing and Math skills needed to succeed in college and career. Attached is the PSAT Student Guide with some practice tips and information on scholarships.
Standardized Testing Guidelines
Important Information Regarding Prohibited Devices: For test security, the following items are not allowed during testing or during breaks once an exam begins: Cell phones Smart watches Fitness bands Air pods or any other brand of wired or wireless headphones Any other wearable electronic device If brought into the room, these items must be powered off and will be stored with a proctor for the duration of the exam (unless there is a documented accommodation on file for medical purposes). If a student accesses any of the prohibited devices after the test begins, regardless of if they are inside or outside the testing room and even during breaks, the student will be dismissed from testing. An irregularity report will also be filed with the testing agency, the room’s entire scores could be cancelled, and the student’s device may be confiscated as a part of the test investigation. These guidelines also pertain to any national tests taken at BHS as part of our Saturday testing options available to our students.
Lynn Gregg's Pink Week Photos
Many of you may know former BHS Counselor Lynn Gregg, but if you don't, Lynn is frequently at BHS for the larger events we hold, such as Pink Week, Homecoming, Prom, and many of the end of the year Senior events, including graduation. He also makes the posters that you may see hanging up around BHS highlighting some of the events we hold here. Lynn shares these galleries with us so that students, staff, and families can view his images and purchase them if they are interested in doing so. A link to Lynn's photo galleries can be found here in case you are interested in viewing any of the pictures from these events.
Student IDs Needed for This Week's Football Game
As a reminder, based on a new policy instituted by Plymouth-Canton Community Schools, for BHS students planning on attending this coming Friday's game at Salem High School, you MUST have your Brighton High School Student ID Card and a ticket to enter the stadium. No BHS Student ID Card means no entrance to the game. Non-BHS students and/or BHS students without a student ID can still attend the game, but must be accompanied by an adult.
Tutoring Options at BHS
National Honor Society's After School Tutoring is underway! If your student is in need of extra help, we encourage them to reach out to the teacher first, as they will be the best resource, but have shared this option with them as well, so please feel free to do the same. NHS students will be available to tutor students in room B-1 from 2:30-3:30 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Tutoring is free of charge. For more information about after school tutoring or for a list of NHS students who are willing to tutor, go to https://bit.ly/BrightonNHSTutoring Please note: our after school tutor will leave at 2:45 if no students have arrived by then.
In addition to After School Tutoring, we have another tutoring resource available for our students. Every year, the BHS Counseling Office generates a list of adult tutors that can be shared with students and families as an additional option if After School Tutoring doesn't work for them for any reason. These tutors have reached out and asked to be on our tutoring list as a resource to BHS students and families. They have self-reported their qualifications. All adults who are not BAS teachers have passed a background check. It is the responsibility of the students and families to find the best tutor for them, arrange meetings, and make payment.
The 2025-26 Tutor List can be found here.

Suicide Prevention Resource Fair
BHS hosted a number of different individuals/organizations during lunch on Tuesday to share information on suicide prevention and support our students who may be struggling or have the opportunity to support their peers who may be struggling. Sunshine Hallway Display
We want all of our students to feel seen, valued, and know that they belong! On Friday, our students saw their name in a star, and hopefully know that they are a light in this world. Special thanks to Mr. Carney and the graphics students for stars, and Mrs. Harper and our BHS Sunshine Club for the painting and putting up all the stars! If you didn't have an opportunity to see this display, I have attached some pictures for you below:
OK2SAY Presentation Information
Some of you may be familiar with OK2Say, but if you are not familiar with the OK2Say Tip Line or the additional resources they provide, we have a number of resources to share. Please see the information below that was shared with our 9th grade students.
On 10/1/25, our 9th grade students listened and engaged in an OK2SAY presentation. OK2SAY is the student safety program which allows students to confidentially report tips on potential harmful or criminal activities directed at students, school employees, and schools. It uses a comprehensive communication system to facilitate tip sharing among students, parents, school personnel, community mental health service programs, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and law enforcement officials about harmful behaviors that threaten to disrupt the learning environment.
While the presentation is not recorded, they do offer several resources for families.
- Parental Guide to OK2SAY
- A Parent's Guide to Understanding Threats
- Online Resources
- Online Discussion Questions and Action Plan
- Bullying: How Parents Can Help
- Holding on to Life Toolkit
We realize that this information is sensitive in nature, but we believe it is important to help support our students. OK2SAY can be contacted by:
- By Phone: Call 1-8-555-OK2SAY (1-8-555-652729) to speak with a trained technician.
- By Text: Text 652729 (OK2SAY) to submit a tip.
- By Email: Send an email to okaytosay@mi.gov.
- By Mobile App: Download the OK2SAY app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
- Online: Visit the OK2SAY website and use the confidential online tip form at ok2say.state.mi.us.
If students have any safety concerns, they are encouraged to contact their Grade-Level Principal, our School Resource Officer, or a staff member. We believe in “See Something, Say Something”, and are here to help our students feel safe.

Juniors will be called down to the Media Center from their social studies classes on either November 19th or 20th to work with Mrs. Caverly on updating their educational development plan. The focus will be on targeted exploration activities for students to complete through Xello. We look forward to the opportunity to work with our Juniors to continue thinking about what comes next and to help them come up with a plan to accomplish it!
Career Chats (Previously Lunch N Learns)
With moving Advisory out of lunches, we changed the name, but the idea for Lunch N Learns is back, just with a new name! We will be hosting Career Chats this year during Advisory and could use your help. If you, or anyone you know, may be interested in connecting our students with more information on potential career opportunities, we would love it if you could review the information below or share the following information with anyone who may be interested!
Brighton High School is looking for community partners!
We are seeking volunteer presenters to share their careers and experiences with students during our 2025-26 Career Pathways Presentations. Our "Career Chats", previously known as Lunch N Learns, are a great opportunity to inspire the next generation and help students explore future career options.
When: During Advisory on Wednesdays from 9:18-10:16 am (dates vary)
Where: Brighton High School
Who: Individuals from all career fields welcome!
If you are interested in volunteering, please reach out to Tanya Clark at clarkt@brightonk12.com for more details.
Together, we can help students connect their education to real-world opportunities!
Guardian Access - Google Classroom Updates 2025
We have some good news from Google in regards to Google Classroom Guardian Access.
Google's recent major update allows parents with active Guardian summaries to preview their student's Classwork page in a view-only mode, granting them access to assigned work, teacher-shared files, and other materials in addition to the previous email summaries of missing and upcoming assignments. This "Guardian Preview" feature, available for Google Workspace for Education Plus users, provides a more direct way for parents to engage with their child's learning by seeing what is on the Classwork page, although it does not grant access to other students' work or class communications.
What Guardians Can Now See:
Classwork Page Preview:
Guardians can now click through links in their email summaries to view the Classwork page for their student's classes.Assignments and Attachments:
They can see the details of assigned work and any files, documents, or recordings teachers have shared with the class.Student-Specific Information:
Access is limited to what has been shared with their specific student, preventing access to other students' information or the entire class stream.
As a guardian, you can get email summaries of your student’s work and progress in a class. Email summaries and preview capabilities within Classroom do not include grades. For grades, go to Parent Connect.
In email summaries, you can review:
Missing work—Work not turned in when the summary was sent.
Upcoming work—Work that’s due today and tomorrow (for daily emails) or that’s due in the upcoming week (for weekly emails).
Class activities—Announcements, assignments, and questions recently posted by teachers.
Before you begin:
You can get email summaries sent to any email address. However, to view or update email summary settings, you need a Google Account. For details, go to Create a Google Account.
Get email summaries:
To get email summaries of your student’s work, you must accept an email invitation from a teacher. You have 120 days to accept an invitation before it expires. You can unsubscribe from summaries or remove yourself as a guardian at any time.
Teacher Invites Guardian: Teachers invite parents to receive email summaries for their student. This is not automatic! Please email your student’s teachers to let them know you want guardian access.
In your email application, open your email invitation.
Click Accept.
When you accept an invitation, you and your student get an email confirmation.
Important things to note:
If you have had guardian access in the past, but turned off notifications, you will need to contact at least ONE of your students' teachers. They will remove your access, then add you back. Once they do, you will see ALL of your students' classwork again.
Once you have access, Guardians will find links within their regular email summaries to access the classwork pages.
Clicking these links provides a view-only version of the Classwork page, similar to how a student would see it.
Remember, you still need to access Parent Connect to see missing assignments and current grades.
We hope you find this new Google feature helpful! For more information and tech assistance, visit Google's help page linked HERE.

October is Michigan College Month!
Michigan College Month is part of the American College Application Campaign, a national initiative with the goal to provide every graduating high school senior the opportunity to apply to college and for financial aid. Special focus is placed on assisting students who would be the first in their families to attend college and students who may not have otherwise seriously considered applying to college. Michigan College Month emphasizes the relationship between applying to and paying for college and helps break down some of the most complex and commonly cited barriers to attending college.
We will have different events going on in October in promotion of Michigan College Month, but also have some resources to share as well. In addition to the student resources already linked, additional resources on fee-free applications/application fee waivers are provided below:
AP Test Fee Payment Deadline - Friday, October 31st
This year, if students want to take their AP exam in May, they must register online in AP Classroom and pay for their AP exam in Parent Connect by October 31, 2025. Each exam is $100 unless a student is eligible for reduced fees due to demonstrated financial need. For students or families who feel they qualify for reduced fees, please email Jennifer Napuli (napulij@brightonk12.com), so she can assist with the process.

SAT/ACT Score Comparisons - Should I Submit My Test Score?
When a student is trying to decide whether to submit ACT scores to a particular college, this chart helps give you a comparison to see if it's a good idea. Say a student earned 1180 on their SAT and 27 on their ACT, and they are wondering if it would help them to submit the 27.
By looking at the chart, you can see a 27 is equivalent to 1260-1290, so roughly 100 points higher than their SAT. So yes, in most cases this student would be helped by submitting their ACT score.
The only exception would be if the higher score still isn't super competitive for the school you are applying to, like UM Ann Arbor. In that case, if the score is below what your GPA would predict you to get, it's probably better to not submit any scores.
Class of 2026 Remind Codes - Students Only
In addition to our various social media accounts, one of the ways in which we share important information with the Senior class is through the use of the Remind App. We will share the same information with parents via weekly emails, however, students seem to do a better job receiving the information through Remind. Please help us by encouraging your student(s) to join the correct Remind group using the join codes below (alphabetical by last name):
Last Name A - E: @bhssr26a-e
Last Name F - L: @bhssr26f-l
Last Name M - P: @bhssr26m-p

Brighton Area Schools Student Wellness Information
As a part of the BAS Strategic Plan, we are always trying to find ways to maximize and support student growth. One of many ways we do this is through the Brighton Area Schools App. This app can be downloaded for free on iTunes and Google Play. It is loaded with resources for students and parents. In addition, consider using the "Your Best, Your Growth, Your Future" part of the app to submit a goal and receive 1:1 support and feedback to help you achieve it! The app will also allow you to receive notifications on what is happening throughout BAS and be updated on future events and information.
Weekly Wellness Tip from BAS - "Self Confidence"
Each week, we will be sharing out a weekly tip/resource with our families. This week's tip:

Job Shadow Day Opportunity
BHS, in partnership with Livingston ESA’s Career Development Department, has planned a countywide, bi-annual event, Liv Co Job Shadow Day, from Wednesday, November 5 through Friday, November 7, 2025. This is a one day activity designed to show Juniors and Seniors a bit about what a day in the life of different careers is like. There are many diverse opportunities for students to shadow, ranging from aircraft mechanics to veterinarians to HVAC technicians.
Sign up for students opens on October 15th at 7pm; students can register and sign up on the same day! Registration involves a parent signature to confirm students' permission to participate. Students can preview the website ahead of time to see what Job Shadow Opportunities are available at the Livingston Career Hub. Please note that career availability is on a first come, first served basis, so it would be a good idea to have a list of top five choices. Some careers require extra paperwork, so please check that out ahead of time. Extra forms are attached to the Job Shadow Profile. All extra forms are due to the employer via email by October 29th, or the job shadow will be canceled. The last day to sign up for Job Shadows for students is October 29th, 2025.
Please see your counselors or CTE teachers for more information. It’s a great way to check out different careers to see if it’s the one for you! There are currently 38 employers and over 340 opportunities available!
2025-26 MHSAA Scholar Athlete Scholarship Award
The online application for the 2025-26 Scholar-Athlete Award is now available. Students will fill out the entire application online, which includes applicant background info, short-answer questions, and essays. Judges will also be reviewing and scoring applications online.
Schools are limited to the number of students who will be considered for the award. Class A schools can nominate 6 boys and 6 girls, Class B can nominate 4 boys and 4 girls, Class C can nominate 3 boys and 3 girls and Class D can nominate 2 boys and 2 girls.
To get your students involved, here is what you need to do…
- Direct students to mhsaa.com/scholarship to start the application process.
- Once there, students will create an account.
- Finally, students will need to enter the Access Code provided to you by the MHSAA. WE WILL SEND YOU THIS CODE IN A SEPARATE EMAIL.
At this point, students can start to fill out the different parts of the application. If they leave the application, they will pick up where they left off when they return. Students also need two letters of recommendation. Students can upload PDFs or Word docs themselves, or they can use the system to have recommenders upload recommendations themselves. The deadline is Dec. 5, at 4:00 p.m. Since the process is entirely online, there is no internal school deadline.
