Course Selection for 9th, 10th, and 11th Graders
Course selection for the 2024-2025 school year has begun! At this time, English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and World Language teachers are making course recommendations for our 9th-11th grade students. Beginning Monday, March 18, students will be meeting individually with their school counselor to make additional course requests. Students will be asked to select 5 additional courses (electives) across a variety of departments including Career and Technical Education (CTE), Fine, Applied and Performing Arts (FAPA), Science, Math, Social Studies, and English. Students not currently taking a World Language will be able to enroll in a language course during this meeting if they choose.
Please remind your student to complete their Course Selection worksheet that was shared with them during Advisory and again via email on March 12. Once all course requests are entered, we will provide students and families with directions for viewing course requests in PowerSchool. Please reach out to your student's school counselor if you have any questions about the process.
Descriptions of all courses being offered can be found in the Program of Studies located on the WHS website. Descriptions are also available by clicking on the following links:
WHS Scholarship Booklet
The WHS Scholarship Booklet is coming! The Google Classroom will be available to seniors on March 13. Seniors should check their email for information about the scholarship booklet and Google Classroom code as this contains information about over 100 scholarships available to WHS students. Please contact Mrs. Linda Tracy with questions.
MCAS Reminders
Students and families are reminded that all 9th and 10th graders will participate in MCAS testing this year.
All 10th graders will take the ELA MCAS in March (March 26 and 27) and the Math MCAS in May (May 21 and 22). All 9th graders will take the Science MCAS in June (June 4 and 5). Students must use their Chromebooks for these tests, so we encourage all students to report any issues with their Chromebooks early (missing keys, missing updates, poor connection to the wifi, etc.). More details about each administration will be shared as the date gets closer.
Scholarships and Special Opportunities
The Guidance Department receives information about scholarships and special opportunities throughout the year. Information about previous and current scholarships and programs can be found on our Special Opportunities and Scholarships Hub. Please see a member of the Guidance department for additional details. Additionally, all seniors will receive the annual Watertown Scholarship Booklet in mid-March.
The Arisdine Krikorian and Family Foundation has established a scholarship program to assist students who are of Armenian descent (self-identify) and reside and attend college or university in the Greater Boston, Massachusetts, area.
