Swimming - Volunteers Needed!
Green Lake Elementary School is pleased to offer swim lessons for all 2nd grade students. And we are off to a good start to swim lessons this year! There have been lots of smiling faces at the pool over the last few weeks.
To keep the lessons going, we need parent volunteers. Lessons are every Monday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Evans Pool when school is in session, January 26 through May 11. In particular, we need help in the boys locker room and assistant instructors to help in the pool.
In order to run the lessons we need
- Chaperone: walk with the class to and from Evans Pool
- Locker room monitor: keep an eye on the students in the locker rooms before and after lessons
- In-water assistant: help the swimmers practice their skills
Chaperones will walk the students to and from the school, meeting at the classroom at 9 a.m., returning to GLES by 10:30 a.m.. Locker room helpers and in-water assistants arrive at Evans Pool at 9:15 a.m. and leave with the students at 10:15 a.m.. You can sign up for multiple roles on the same day. For example, chaperones can also help in the locker rooms.
Volunteers from other classrooms are especially valued. Please sign up to chaperone swim lessons.
If you have questions or would prefer to signup over email/phone, contact Matthew Rutishauser: swim@greenlakedragons.org / 831-419-0401.
Save the Date: STEM Fair, Friday April 10
STEM Fair (for science, technology, engineering and math) will be on Friday, April 10 during the school day! No need to prepare anything at home or in advance. Kids will visit this open-house style fair with their class, where they can build, test, measure, and celebrate science in hands-on activities and demonstrations!
But to run this event, we need volunteer power! Can you help for a couple hours on Friday April 10? No STEM experience required, we'll set you up with everything you need. We’d love to have different languages represented too!
- Volunteer Shift 1 (2nd and 5th Grades): 8:45-11a.m.
- Shift 2 (3rd and Kindergarten): 10:45 a.m.-1 p.m.
- Shift 3 (1st and 4th Grades): 1-3:45 p.m.
Sign up or send in an activity/demo idea

School Discord Group
We've started a Discord Server for our school community! This is a safe online space where we can find the other families in our kid's grade, crowd-source answers to important questions (like "what summer camps are your kids doing?"or "what the heck is Roblox?"), or just generally connect with our community.
This is also where we are doing our community organization and alerts around ICE, so please join!
