Message From the Parent Coordinator
Summer Rising 2026
NYC Public Schools, in partnership with the Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), will once again offer Summer Rising for Summer 2026. Summer Rising provides elementary and middle school students with fun, hands‑on experiences designed to strengthen academic, social, and emotional skills.
Summer Rising is free and open to all NYC students currently in grades K–8.
Detailed information about program dates and hours will be posted at schools.nyc.gov/SummerRising when the application opens on March 3.
Summer Rising features:
- NYCPS‑led academic programming
- Enrichment activities offered by DYCD Community Based Organizations (CBOs)
- Free breakfast and lunch for all participants
For more information, visit schools.nyc.gov/SummerRising.
Summer Rising: MySchools Application
The application window runs from March 3–27, 2026.
To apply:
- Log into your MySchools.nyc account, or create a new one.
- You’ll need your email address, your child’s nine-digit student ID, and their MySchools account creation code (available from your child’s school).
- If you’ve previously used MySchools for summer or school‑year programs, your child may already appear in your account.
Note: MySchools is separate from NYCSA.
There is no limit to how many programs families may add to their application—adding more options increases placement possibilities. Applications are not first‑come, first‑served; all submitted by the deadline receive equal consideration based on admissions priorities. Families may edit applications anytime during the application window.
For questions, visit schools.nyc.gov/SummerRising or contact your school.
Students with IEPs and 504 Plans
Students attending 12‑month/Extended School Year (ESY) programs—such as special class, Nest, or Horizon—will receive all IEP‑recommended services at an ESY, D75, Nest, or Horizon summer site.
Families wishing to participate in a 12‑month IEP program and in extended‑day, CBO‑led Summer Rising enrichment must apply through MySchools. Instructions will be posted in the application.
If your child will only attend:
- Nest or Horizon (until 12:00 p.m.)
- D75 programming (until 2:30 p.m.)
- ESY programming (until 2:00 p.m.)
and you do not want extended‑day enrichment, contact your school directly instead of applying through MySchools.
High School Offers Released
Students who applied to high school by the December 3, 2025 deadline will receive their offer on March 5, 2026.
Log into MySchools to view:
- Your child’s offer
- Any waitlist placements
- Next‑step information
To learn how offers are made, visit schools.nyc.gov/HS.

Programming for 2026-2027
We are excited to share important information regarding the course selection process for the 2026-2027 school year. The 2026-2027 Course Catalog is now available on the LaGuardia website. Please read and review the following information and be on the lookout for a grade-specific course request form email. Please take your time and carefully review the course catalog before completing your request form. These forms are not a first come, first serve experience. Requesting your courses is just an essential first step in the programming process. Students who submit it first will not have any priority over students who submit it later. Please take time to carefully read your options for next year and make thoughtful choices.
Important Dates and Deadlines
All forms will open and be shared on Monday, March 2nd, 2026.
All forms will close on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at 4:00PM.
While we understand that you may have several questions during this process, you must complete the form within the allotted time frame. You will have an opportunity to review and adjust your preferences at a later date with your guidance counselor.
You have the ability to edit your form. You may change your course preferences at any point up until the form closes.
Please note that these are preferences, not programs. Course offerings are subject to budget and availability.
Once your form is submitted, guidance counselors may reach out to you to review your course requests.
Thank you,
The LaGuardia Programming Office
PSAT/SAT Day on March 17
Who takes the P/SAT on March 17?
On March 17 Sophomores and Juniors are registered for the PSAT (10th grade) or SAT 11th Grade. There could be last-minute adjustments or instructions.)
What do I need to take beforehand?
The P/SAT Test will be administered digitally (on the computer). Please be sure you follow all instructions. Students should check that their lap top or tablet works with the test -- Do not wait until the last minute.

Exciting News from Our Japanese Program!
On February 13, we had the pleasure of welcoming four high school students from Japan through the MIEF program! A few of our LaGuardia students had the fantastic opportunity to host these guests for part of the day, giving them a taste of what life is like for a LaGuardia student! They also joined our after-school Japanese Club meeting, where we all had a blast sharing stories and learning about each other’s cultures!
Just a day prior, our Japanese 6 and AP Japanese classes embarked on an adventure at the NECTJ Bunkasai held at Hunter College. This unique event brought together over 500 students from the New York area who are also passionate about learning Japanese! It was a truly special day for our LaGuardia students to connect with peers, dive deeper into Japanese culture, and practice their language skills in real-life scenarios!
As part of the Bunkasai festivities, Mars Cruz won First Place in the Poster Design Contest! Also, AP students—Adele Stokke, Ziling Liu, and Minjun Kim—stepped up to the challenge and participated in the Speech Contest! We are thrilled to announce that Ziling Liu won Second Place, while Minjun Kim took home First Place! Both will represent our school and NECTJ at the All-USA High School Japanese Speech Contest in LA over Memorial Day weekend!
We couldn't be prouder of our students’ hard work, talent and dedication! O-MÉ-DÉ-Toh and huge congratulations to everyone involved!
