Welcome Back, AFCES!

Welcome back to the 2022-2023 school year. Back to school time has always been one of my most favorite times of year. Back to school shopping, new school supplies, coming back together with friends, and anxiously awaiting to meet my new teacher always created such excitement and anticipation.

All of the staff at AFC Elementary School are very excited to welcome all our students back. Below you will find important information pertaining to the beginning of the school year.

• August 12th - Popsicles with the Principal at 2:00 PM (AFC Elementary Playground)

• August 17th - Back to School Night from 4:00 - 6:00 PM

• August 18th - Students First Day of Attendance (Full School Day)

AFC Elementary will host its Back to School Night on August 17th from 4:00 - 6:00 PM. At this time, students will be able to meet their teachers, drop off school supplies, and visit one of the many booths that will be set up around the school.

A K-6 school supply list can be accessed by clicking here. If you ordered a school supply kit from Teacher Tailored, those can be picked up on August 6th at the main entrance of the elementary school from 8:00 - 12:00. To make other arrangements for pick-up, you can email jburkitt@afcschools.net to schedule a time the week of August 8th. Kits that remain after the week of August 8th will be given to homeroom teachers for Back to School Night.

As a reminder, the program that allowed us to offer lunch at no cost for all families expired on June 30, 2022. Therefore, we will be reverting back to free and reduced price meals for qualifying families. If you do not qualify for free or reduced meals, the price for K-6 students is $2.50.

Students should be dropped off no earlier than 7:50 AM as this is when supervision on the playground begins. Students who arrive at school after the tardy bell should enter the building through the main entrance of the school and check in with the office. Please avoid the road in front of the main entrance as this is where our buses park to unload students. Students should utilize the crossing guard on the corner of Elm & Lahman.

Bus students are dismissed first and exit the building through the main entrance. All other students are dismissed through their assigned door and are taken to the playground for pick up. Students who are walking, riding their bike, etc. should leave the playground as soon as they are dismissed. Students should utilize the crossing guard on the corner of Elm & Lahman. Playground supervision will continue until 3:15.

Any student who has not been picked up by that time will be brought to the main office and their parent/guardian will be notified.

Please notify the main office as soon as possible if your child will be absent for the day. If you are calling your student out the morning of the absence, please do so before 9:00 AM.

Please remember to notify your child's teacher AND the main office if your child has an appointment during the school day. We do our best to have your child ready to go in the office when you arrive.

Additionally, we need to be contacted by a parent or guardian if your child's mode of transportation has changed for getting home at the end of the day. Please notify both your child's teacher AND the main office. If we do not have written permission or receive a phone call giving permission for this change, your child will go home as they normally would.

Please be sure you are getting school physical, immunization, dental, and eye appointments made and taken care of. Those forms can be dropped off or mailed to the elementary school Monday thru Friday between 8:00 AM and 3:30 PM.
