March Character Trait- Grit
The monthly character trait for March is Grit. Grit is the ability to persevere in the face of obstacles, difficulties, distractions, or misfortune (Also known as adversity). Grit is a complex trait we develop through experience and are continuously working on throughout life. We will focus on lessons and messages associated with Grit for the month of March.
Message from the Principal
Good Afternoon, Beach Haven Families,
During February, we have focused on the character trait of kindness. Students and staff contributed to sharing acts of kindness we can demonstrate toward others by completing our kindness puzzle (Photo in newsletter). Our students also earned tickets for demonstrating kind acts throughout the day, from which we have chosen our next principal of the day and the Golden Surfer award winner, Ethan Aparicio. We combine ticket totals from each monthly count toward our larger school incentives like dance parties and pep rallies. Our school counselor taught lessons about kindness in each class. Our 6th Grade students shared daily morning announcements with messages about kindness to inspire their peers daily. Our Community Outreach committee collected soup cans as a kind act to support families in need through our food pantry. Our principal of the Day, Camila Mendez, talked with students about the connections between respect and kindness as she asked students to define what respect meant to them and how to show respect toward others. These are just some examples of the many things we do each month to grow and develop good character here at Beach Haven School. As always, we welcome your input and offer you a chance to contribute to our School Climate Committee. By completing this form, you can provide input and/or request to attend an upcoming School Climate Committee Meeting.
Our Character Trait for the month is "Grit". Grit is the ability to persevere in the face of obstacles, difficulties, distractions, or misfortune (Also known as adversity). Grit is a complex trait we develop through experience and continuously work on throughout life. As academic material gets more challenging, life gets busier, and the world becomes more advanced, it becomes even more critical to understand how to develop Grit. We will focus on lessons and messages associated with Grit for March.
We are excited to have your children join us to celebrate and grow our love for reading as we celebrate "Read Across America" next week. Reading to children, with children, and in front of children are all great ways family members can help reinforce the importance of reading with children. You can see the exciting activities planned in this week's newsletter.
Don't forget to support our PTA and enjoy a fun night at Bunco Night this evening from 6-9 PM at the firehouse.
Have a great weekend!
Regards,
Theodore Loeffler
Superintendent/Principal
The PTA will be hosting a Family Game night Friday, March 7th at 6:30 featuring Disney Trivia, prizes, snacks and a book exchange.
If you or anyone you know has any types of books (children's through adults) we will be collecting them in the front office.
Attendance Matters
Parent/Caregiver Survey Request
As a small school, every child absent significantly impacts our school's chronic absenteeism rate because each child represents a more significant percentage of our population than other schools. The advantage our children get from having smaller class sizes can be negatively impacted by each absence they have. We aim to have students here in school as often as possible so they can benefit most from their education. Students who reach 18 or more absences in a single school year are considered chronically absent.

Emergency Preparedness
- Make A Plan: Families may not be together if a disaster strikes, so it is important to create plans that outline how they will contact each other during an emergency.
- Build a Kit: Assemble emergency kits containing essential supplies like water, non-perishable food, first aid supplies, flashlights, batteries, and important documents. Ensure these kits are easily accessible and periodically updated.
- Ready Kids: Engage students in age-appropriate preparedness activities. Utilize FEMA’s “Ready Kids” resources to teach children about emergency planning.
- Pet Preparedness: Pets are important members of families too, so they need to be included when making a plan.
