Oregon Battle of the Books

Oregon Battle of the Books is back! This fun, engaging, reading competition encourages students from grades 3-12 to read! Consider using a book from this list for your next class read aloud. Read the books and start talking about them with students. I'll be sharing book talks in the coming weeks. You can visit the official website here and find resources and learn how to get your school registered. Have fun!

Digital Citizenship

Given that our students now are 1:1, now more than ever, it is essential that we explicitly teach students how to be safe, responsible, and respectful online throughout their schooling, not just upon their first use. K-5 teachers can find Digital Citizenship lessons adapted for Seesaw here. Join Common Sense Media (it's free) to get access to K-12 lessons. These lessons are easy to implement with little planning.

Be Internet Awesome is Google's digital citizenship curriculum. Kids love the games that keep them thinking while learning about being good digital citizens.

BrainPOP also has digital citizenship lessons:

  • BrainPOP Digital Citizenship Videos
  • BrainPOP Digital Etiquette
  • BrainPOP Online Safety
  • BrainPOP Cyberbullying
  • BrainPOP Digital Citizenship

Community Connection and Virtual Field Trips

We are continuing to explore and research our community together through our virtual field trip program! All virtual field trips will be pre-recorded so you can watch when the time is right for you and your students. Our first virtual field trip of the year to the Greenhill Humane Society is ready for your viewing pleasure and can be found here (or click on the image below). It's super short, but students may enjoy meeting the cute dogs available for adoption.

If you would like to request a specific field trip for your class, fill out this quick form.
