COVID Response Report

Superintendent Presta gave a brief update on how the District is addressing current issues related to COVID-19. She noted that:

*COVID-related cases being reported to the District are going down and that the JUHSD Dashboard continues to be updated daily.

*Additional rapid antigen tests have been ordered and delivered to the district office and will continue to be made available to staff.

*Superintendent Presta thanked Dorene Basuino, Associate Superintendent of Student Services and Human Resources, for taking time out of her afternoons to test staff in the District Office Galleria.

*The District is purchasing take-home antigen rapid tests to share with students with the hopes of us being able to share those with them before going on their next break.

AFT 1481 Report

Union President Monica Casey attended a recent CFT (California Federation of Teachers) meeting. She shared that COVID-related issues take time and energy away from educating students, which is the primary goal of a school district, and hopes schools will return to this soon.

Students Share Out

During the start of each board meeting, it's always a treat to hear our Student Trustees eloquently share site updates and concerns with the school Board of Trustees and Executive Cabinet. Trustee Natalie La from Westmoor High School was present during this meeting.

Student Trustee Katalina Huazano, Terra Nova High School, shared her report through notes given to Board President Tejada. She noted that a water filling station was recently installed in the school's "Jungle" quad area with students taking full advantage of this new installation. She also mentioned the senior class holding an e-waste fundraiser this weekend to garnish monies to fund their spring prom. She lastly noted that as winter sports come to a close, the school is excited to being training and practices for their spring athletic teams.

At the next board meeting, our District Student Trustees will have the opportunity to present on events taking place at their school sites.

Newly Adopted Board Policy-Civility

The Governing Board recognizes the impact that civility has on the effective operation of the District, including its role in creating a safe and positive school climate and enabling a focus on student well-being, learning, and achievement. The Board believes that each person should be treated with dignity and respect in their interactions within the school community.

At tonight's meeting, BP (Board Policy) 1313(s) was approved with a 3-2 majority vote. This policy states that students, staff, parents/guardians, and community members shall not communicate or behave in a manner that causes disruption; hinders the orderly conduct of district operations, educational program, or any other district program or activity; or creates an unsafe learning or working environment. The Superintendent or designee may respond to disruptive, violent, or threatening behavior in accordance with law and as specified in BP/AR (Administrative Regulation) 3515.2.
