Communicating About Snow Days
Road/Weather Related 2 Hour Delay Reminder
In the event that inclement weather and/or road conditions necessitate an emergency closure BUT those conditions are anticipated to improve within a few hours, the Kellogg School District may choose to implement a 2 hour late start for all schools in the district. Because this is a change in the normal full day “Snow Day” closures, the following information is being provided.
As in the case of regular emergency closures, mass notifications via text/phone/email/push notification, TV news, social media posts and website updates will be used to communicate the information. The emergency closure hotline is 208-786-2071 and will be updated with the most current information.
All bus routes will be delayed 2 hours. Questions regarding when a bus will be picking up can be referred to the bus garage (208-784-0061).
School start time will be exactly 2 hours late (KHS will start at 10:05, KMS @ 9:55, PES @ 9:40, CES @ 10:00). THERE WILL BE NO AM PRESCHOOL on late start days.
Breakfast will not be served in any of the buildings in the event of a 2 hour late start.
Lunch will be served at the normal times.
School will be released at regular dismissal time.
Decisions to hold after school programs & extra-curricular activities will be made at the building level and will be communicated to students and parents as soon as the decision is made.
Please keep in mind that the decision to delay the start of the school day, or declare an emergency “snow day” is never taken lightly. The safety of our students, families and staff members is of paramount importance. We appreciate your patience, cooperation and understanding when these decisions are made.
Please let the district office know if you have any questions regarding the 2 hour late start for inclement weather or road conditions.
How to find out if we have a weather-related delay/closing:
- Download the KSD mobile app and enable push notifications
- Check our website
- Confirm your contact information is up-to-date with your child's school in order to receive phone call, text and email notifications.
Cell Phone Policy Update
The Kellogg School District Board of Trustees has begun the process of implementing a new policy to promote student health and safety, improve academic focus, and prevent cyberbullying. This policy comes from the "Phone Free Learning Act", an Executive Order issued by Idaho Governor Little on October 31, 2024.
This policy will require students in grades K-8 to keep their personal electronic devices (phones, tablets, smartwatches, etc.) off and stored in their lockers, backpacks, or designated classroom storage areas during the school day. Students in grades 9-12 will be required to keep their devices off and stored during instructional time.
We understand the importance of technology in today’s world, but we believe this policy will create a more focused and positive learning environment for all students. Please be on the lookout for more information, after the holiday break, as the policy is finalized. We will provide additional details, including specific guidelines and exceptions for students with special needs and emergencies.
Thank you for your support!
KELLOGG HIGH SCHOOL
Before the holiday break, students in Mr. Porth's Integrated Science classes began testing bacterial growth and efficacy of antibiotics, antiseptic and disinfectants. The bacteria will be incubated over break and data analyzed using a zone of inhibition.

Attendance Matters!
During the December 23-January 5 winter break from school, we are grateful to everyone for helping to restore a routine for showing up to school while supporting students and families.
We appreciate everyone’s efforts to avoid taking extra time off during the winter break. As long as your child is healthy, please encourage showing up to class when school is in session.
Every day of school is an important opportunity for students to develop personally, socially and academically.
We thank:
● Our students and their families who do their best to show up daily even when it isn’t easy.
● Our teachers who go above and beyond to make school a welcoming and safe place for all students to learn.
● Our administrators who help us work together to ensure we create a physically and emotionally safe and engaging learning environment.
● Our many, many healers and helpers - the support staff and community volunteers who provide the extra hands and attention our children need.
We appreciate each one of you. May these days off be restful and healing.
● If your family or your child needs support, please reach out to the counselor at your child's school for help.
● We look forward to seeing you again when school resumes on Monday, January 6, 2025!
Thank you for partnering with us! #ksdstudentsfirst
