WES is ALL THAT!
Wylie Elementary April Family Newsletter
Principal's Message
Dear Families,
April is an exciting and important time on our campus! As we move into the final stretch of the school year, our students and teachers are continuing to work hard each day to grow, learn, and prepare for upcoming assessments. This is a critical time for strong instruction, consistent routines, and building confidence in our learners. We are focused on making the most of every instructional minute while supporting students in finishing the year strong—both academically and behaviorally.
For our 3rd grade students, this month brings STAAR testing. We are confident in the progress our students have made and are proud of the effort they show daily in the classroom. Our goal is for every student to feel prepared, confident, and ready to do their very best.
While our 3rd graders are preparing for STAAR, our 1st and 2nd grade students are continuing to build a strong foundation in reading and math. This is such a critical time for developing fluency, comprehension, and problem-solving skills that will set them up for success in the years ahead. We encourage families to support this growth at home by reading together each night, practicing math facts, and talking about what your child is learning at school.
Families, you play an important role in helping your child succeed during this time. A few simple things can make a big difference:
- Ensure your child gets a good night’s sleep
- Have them arrive at school on time (instruction begins right away!)
- Encourage a positive mindset and remind them to take their time
- Provide a healthy breakfast (or take advantage of our free breakfast at school)
Please note that our campus will be closed to visitors on STAAR testing days to ensure a quiet and secure testing environment for all students.
We are so proud of our Cubs and all they have accomplished this year. Let’s finish strong together! Thank you for your continued support and partnership.

Campus Highlights
Our Cubs are continuing to grow and shine this spring! 📚 Students are making great progress in reading through small groups, literacy stations, and intentional instruction each day.
During WIN Time, teachers are providing targeted support and enrichment to meet every student’s needs—this focused time is making a big impact! 🧠
We are also proud of the positive behavior happening across campus. Students are earning Cub Bucks for showing responsibility, respect, and effort, and working toward rewards in our Cub Buck Store. 💙
Across classrooms, students are engaged in meaningful learning using hands-on activities and tools like IXL and Google Classroom. We are excited to finish the year strong and support every Cub in reaching their full potential! 🏅
Counselor's Corner
Honesty- Living truthfully in your words and actions and thoughts!
As we enter April, the end of the school year is quickly approaching! This is an exciting time filled with growth, reflection, and transitions. We are very proud of the way our Wylie students have grown this year; academically, socially, and emotionally.
Throughout the year, the counselors have been focusing on character growth as well as academic growth. The character word for April is HONESTY: being truthful in what you say and what you do. Counselors will be visiting each classroom in April to present lessons on Honesty. Grade 1 students will have fun reading about Eli’s Li O Meter and creating their own “truth tester.” Grade 2 students will read an updated version of The Boy Who Cried Wolf and make a wolf puppet. Grade 3 classes will read a thought-provoking favorite, titled the Empty Pot, about a boy who, even though he lost the King’s challenge, in the end reaps the reward because of his honesty.
As always, the counselors are here to answer questions or concerns you may have regarding your student transitioning to the next grade or, as in the case of our third graders, transitioning to a new campus. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.

April Reminders for Families
📅 Attendance Matters
Every minute of instruction counts. Our school day begins at 7:45, and students who arrive late miss valuable learning time. Please help your child be on time and present each day.
📚 Read Every Night (Especially 1st & 2nd Grade!)
Reading at home is one of the most powerful ways to support your child’s success. Aim for 15–20 minutes each night. Ask your child questions about what they read to build understanding and confidence.
✏️ Stay Focused & Do Your Best
We are encouraging all students to stay focused, put forth their best effort, and keep a positive mindset. Remind your child to take their time and never give up when learning gets challenging.
🧠 Testing Season (3rd Grade)
Our students are prepared and ready to show what they know! You can help by ensuring your child gets a good night’s sleep, eats breakfast, and arrives at school on time.
🎯 Finish Strong
The end of the year is in sight! Encourage your child to set goals and continue working hard each day.
🦁 PBIS & Cub Bucks
Students are earning Cub Bucks for positive behavior, effort, and responsibility. We love celebrating students who are making great choices!
