Crimson Connection
Message from the Board of Education
At last week’s Board of Education meeting, we swore in Dr. Guy Lowery as the new Superintendent of the Pottsville Area School District. Dr. Lowery was sworn in by the Honorable Judge Burke. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Alan Lonoconus for his leadership during this transitional period, and a very warm welcome to Dr. Lowery.
Dr. Lowery joins Pottsville from the Southeast Delco School District, bringing over two decades of education experience, including as an assistant superintendent, chief academic officer, principal, and teacher. His broad leadership background and deep understanding of instruction and school culture will be a strong asset to our schools.
We are confident that Dr. Lowery’s collaborative leadership style, optimistic vision, and commitment to continuous improvement will serve our students, staff, and community well. On behalf of the Board, we wish everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving and look forward to a new chapter of achievement under Dr. Lowery’s leadership when we all return.

Former Board of Education President
Dear Pottsville Area School Community,
As I wrap up my first week in Pottsville Area School District, I want to extend my sincere thanks for the warm welcome. Even though my very first official act as superintendent ended up being a snow day on Tuesday, it gave me an early reminder of just how quickly this role calls for thoughtful decisions, and how much this community pulls together no matter the challenge.
As I have begun visiting our school buildings, I’ve felt the pride and warmth that define this community. I’ve met incredible staff members, seen excellent instruction happening in classrooms, and watched students who are kind, curious, and full of potential. It’s easy to see why this is such a special place.
Spending time in our buildings and getting to know staff will continue to be my top priority. In the weeks ahead, I’ll also begin hosting listening sessions so I can hear directly from families, students, and community members in Pottsville and our Saint Clair students and families who attend Pottsville Area High School. While I bring more than two decades of experience in education, I know there is much to learn about this community, and I’m eager to do that learning alongside you.
Thank you again for such a welcoming first week. I’m proud to be here and excited for the work ahead.
Guy Lowery, Ed.D
Superintendent
Delivering Thanksgiving Baskets
Across all three schools, students and staff worked together to collect supplies for our annual Thanksgiving Basket Drive. This year, Pottsville Area High School students will hand-deliver more than 60 baskets to local families in need. Each basket includes turkey, stuffing, vegetables, milk, pie, and other essentials that make a holiday meal special.
Thank you to these incredible students who helped assemble the baskets and who will help make Thanksgiving Day brighter for so many people who need the support.
In times that can be especially challenging for many, our Crimson community continues to step up and care for one another.
Middle School Staff Thanksgiving
Last week, our middle school staff gathered for a long-standing Thanksgiving tradition—a shared meal that reflects the family-like teamwork and dedication that define our school community. Our staff care as deeply for one another as they do for our students, and that shared commitment is what makes Pottsville such a special place for children to learn and thrive.
Pottsville Area's Very own Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
Pottsville Life Skills students participated in their annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, including our own version of the iconic balloon showcase. Memories were made, and Crimson pride was on full display.
Supporting Families, Meeting Needs
As SNAP benefits lapsed for many in our region, Pottsville Area School District has prioritized providing students and families with essential support:
Elementary School – The Weekender Program
Students take home backpacks filled with food for the weekend, ensuring support even when school is not in session.Middle School – Helping Harvest School Pantry
Middle and high school students have access to non-perishable and easy-to-prepare food items.High School – Anonymous QR Code Support
QR codes placed privately throughout the building allow students to request help discreetly, ensuring dignity and comfort.
No matter what it takes, Pottsville cares.
