Summer Reading

Perkiomen Valley School District believes it is critical for students to foster positive reading habits in order to develop as lifelong learners. The district's summer reading program encourages students to read high-interest, self-selected texts. After all, summer reading is a great opportunity for each student to explore personal interests, various genres, topics he/she wants to know more about while discovering his/her own "just right" books. As an added bonus, reading high-interest materials prepares students for the demands of college and career-reading. Research strongly suggests that reading skills improve with practice and weaken when not exercised. So why have a summer reading program? The program exists to inspire a lifelong love of reading and to maintain and sharpen one's reading and thinking skills.

Schedules

Student schedules will be available to be viewed on the Home Access Center beginning Wednesday, August 9th at noon. The building schedule and student schedules were both built based on the requests made last school year. When it was impossible to give a student their first elective choice, one of alternate choices was substituted. While we attempt to accommodate each and every schedule request, sometimes it is not possible to give students exactly what was requested. Schedule changes will only be made if there is an error or if a student is not scheduled for the required 6 credits at all times. The deadline to make changes in requested courses was March 30th and we built the master schedule for the high school based on these choices.

Schedule changes are only made in extreme cases. All changes to schedules must go through your student’s counselor.

Online Verification

Online Verification (OLV) - the annual process is now accessible via ParentVUE for families of students in grades 1-12. The primary purpose of OLV is to ensure that our student information system maintains accurate and up-to-date information, including demographic details, health-related information, and family contacts. Another benefit of OLV is that it is a completely PAPERLESS process, eliminating the need for distributing physical flyers and forms during the first days of school. Families can conveniently access the information directly through OLV in ParentVUE. I would recommend using a computer rather than trying to do this through your phone.

NOTE: families will need to complete OLV prior to the release of class assignments and schedules in ParentVUE to ensure access.

The locker number and combination will be available to students in StudentVue. The form will be available closer to the start of the school year.

PVSD Food Service Updates

The federal funding to provide free meals expired with the start of 2022-23 school year. This means families will need to apply for the free or reduced school meals program if needed. Visit our food service webpage for information and to access the application. In the event you need assistance, do not hesitate to reach out to a representative of the Food Services department, your child's school counselor, or one of our social workers, Mrs. Patti Colucci, pcolucci@pvsd.org, Mr. Jim Rude, jrude@pvsd.org, or Mrs. Jamie Slack, jslack@pvsd.org. These individuals serve the elementary, middle and high school levels, respectively. If you should reach out to a counselor or social worker, know that you may not receive a response right away, however, we will be certain to provide answers to your questions about the free and reduced lunch application by the beginning of the school year.
