The Weekly Buzz
From Palmer River Elementary School
May 16, 2025
Dear Families,
Late last Friday afternoon, we wrapped up our much-anticipated Masked Reader Event with a dramatic and hilarious Unmasking Ceremony, expertly hosted by our legendary Book Vending Machine Crew—Mrs. Sullivan, Mrs. DiPalma, Ms. Cohen, and Ms. Larrivee. They brought the energy, the flair, and the fun to the stage!
It was a joyful and memorable school assembly that had students cheering, guessing, and laughing. Spoiler alert: some of the "masked" identities were shockingly spot-on… and others left us wondering how we didn't guess sooner. Grade-level winners are pictured above, proudly posing with this year’s mysterious (and now revealed) Masked Readers. It was a wonderful way to celebrate reading and keep our school community connected through books, fun, and a little friendly competition! Overall, $1200.00 was raised for our book vending machine, so thank you to those who made donations! We couldn't do it without you.
This week, our Grade 3 students showed incredible focus and grit as they completed the mathematics MCAS. Well done, scholars! Grade 4 will take on their final round of math testing next week—then that’s it! MCAS 2025 will be in the books!
As we look ahead, the calendar is jam-packed with exciting events—field days, performances, end-of-year celebrations, and more. Be sure to check the list of upcoming events below so you don't miss a moment of the fun. Wishing you a wonderful, restful weekend—and maybe a moment to appreciate that we’re on the final stretch of the school year.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kristine Kefor, Principal

The Buzz from the Health Office 🐝
Uprise in Gastrointestinal (GI) Bugs – What You Need to Know!
We have seen an increase in gastrointestinal (GI) illness cases, including stomach aches, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. These illnesses can spread quickly in schools, so please follow the health precautions to help prevent their spread.
Keep your child home if sick: If your child has vomiting, diarrhea, or fever, please keep them home until they are symptom-free for at least 24 hours without medication. If a child is dismissed from the nurse for GI issues, they must stay home the next day from school. This absence will be excused.
Hand washing: Please remind your child to wash their hands frequently, especially after using the bathroom and before eating. Proper handwashing is one of the best ways to prevent the spread of germs.
Disinfecting: Our school staff cleans and disinfects frequently touched surfaces daily, but it’s always helpful to ensure your child practices good hygiene at home and school.
If your child is feeling sick or showing symptoms of a GI illness, please don't hesitate to contact me for further guidance. Your child’s health is our top priority!
Physicals Needed for 4th Graders
This is a quick reminder for families of our 4th-grade students: I’m still missing over half of the required physicals that need to be submitted for your child to transition smoothly into middle school next year. These physicals are essential as they help ensure that our students are healthy and ready for the physical demands of middle school, including sports.
Please submit your child’s physical exam form as soon as possible. You can email or bring the form to the nurse.
Thank you for your continued support in keeping our school community healthy! If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me directly at eferreira@drregional.org
Wishing you all good health and a wonderful spring season!
Kind Regards,
Elizabeth Ferreira, RN, BSN, SNT

Help cement Square 1 Art tiles onto the school walls. We’ll need 4-5 volunteers for this creative project.
4th Grade Art Show Set-Up Day

This is the big one! We need as many hands as possible to help set up for the 4th Grade Art Show. Come for an hour or stay all day, any help is greatly appreciated!
Please Note: All parent volunteers must have a current CORI on file. If you're unsure of your status or need to complete one, please reach out Andrea Halajko at ahalajko@drregional.org or Linda Saxon at lsaxon@drregional.org in the office.
Anticipated Traffic Delays Due to Upcoming Rotary Work
Please be advised that roadwork is scheduled to take place in the new rotary from Monday, May 20 through Tuesday, May 28.
We encourage all families to allow extra time for drop-off and pick-up during this period. Bus routes may also be slightly delayed.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as this work is completed. We will share any updates as they become available.

The Monthly Mindset
May's Monthly Mindset is Cooperation!
Cooperation means working together nicely with others to reach a goal or solve a problem. It’s about being a good team player, sharing ideas, listening, and helping each other. When we cooperate, everyone feels included, things go more smoothly, and we can do amazing things together!

Upcoming Elections for the Board
Our PTSA is gearing up for the upcoming election, and… we’re currently flying solo. That’s right—no nominations yet. Most urgently, we can’t move forward without a Secretary (seriously, the bylaws say so). Without a full board, many of the fun events and helpful programs we all love (and our kids look forward to!) could see major changes. Don’t worry, we promise it’s not all Robert’s Rules and spreadsheets. There’s laughter, friendships, and the chance to make a real impact.
Elections will be held at our membership meeting on June 12, 2025 at 6:30pm and more information can be found on our website (rehobothptsa.org/Elections). Nominate yourself or someone else today!
