1st Graders Constructing Gingerbread Houses!
1st graders will spend the time Monday morning, December 15, constructing gingerbread houses. They will use a variety of "construction materials" including graham crackers, frosting, and all types of candy to build Christmas worthy houses!
Sunset PE Happenings
In December Sunset PE students will be finishing up our throwing and catching unit and starting striking with long handled implements by playing floor hockey. Fifth graders will finish this unit with the Annual 5th Grade Floor Hockey Tournament at the Rec Center. The tournament is December 12, 8:45-11:30 am. More specific information for 5th graders will be coming from their classroom teachers.

2nd Grade Swimming Lessons
Free swimming lessons are being offered by the Rec Center to 2nd graders, the last session is December 1 through December 11; Mondays through Thursdays, unless otherwise noted. Class sizes are limited to 8 students per class. Due to class sizes and to maximize the time allowed for teaching swim classes, there are two different time slots; 3:45 to 4:15 p.m. and 4:15-4:45 p.m. Once all lessons are complete all children still in the pool will be directed to the locker rooms to change.
Rec Center registration forms and information about the swimming lessons were sent home in September. Completed registration forms need to be returned to the Rec Center. A bus will transport students from Sunset School to the Rec Center, parents will pick up their student after the lesson. Parents must pick their student up at the Rec Center NO LATER than 5:00 p.m.
Make sure your student leaves home with their swimming clothes and a towel!
SchoolPass-Visitor Management System
SchoolPass is a sign-in/check-in system for visitors, volunteers, and guests to our school. First-time visitors come a few minutes early to get signed into the system. You need your driver's license to sign-in, all visitors receive a pin number to use for subsequent visits to our building.
Please allow yourself enough time to check into the SchoolPass System upon entering the school. Please remind family members as well. Thank you!

Happy Holidays!
December is always a fun and busy month at Sunset School. Many classrooms will have holiday celebrations for the students to enjoy. I am asking you to keep food allergies in mind as the holidays approach. We have many students with food allergies, some causing skin or stomach issues while others are life-threatening. Please contact your child’s teacher or myself for any questions regarding food allergies in your student’s classroom. If your student has food allergies, consider offering alternative snacks for them to enjoy if there are snacks in the classroom that they can not eat. Thank you for working with me to keep all of our students safe. I wish you all the best!

Doctor's notes for absences
Parents, just a reminder about absences due to illness or doctor/dentist visits. If your student is sick and they see a doctor, please get a note from their doctor regarding their illness. This will excuse their absence from school. The same is true for a doctor or dentist appointment, a note from the doctor/dentist will excuse their absence.
