MHS CommunityLetterSeptember 10, 2026

Hello, Bear Families!

We can’t believe it is already September! The school year is off to a great start, and our students are getting after it in the classroom. We are excited about the energy we are seeing throughout MHS and are looking forward to everything ahead.

To our freshman families, we sincerely hope the transition to high school has gone well and that your students are beginning to settle in. High school is a big adjustment, and the longer they are with us, the more comfortable and confident they will become. We are excited to watch them find their place at MHS.

One of our major areas of focus this year has been increasing student participation in extracurricular activities, with particular emphasis on FFA, Swim, and Band. To every student who has taken the leap and tried something new this year, we are incredibly excited to have you involved!

We especially want to highlight our FFA pig scholarship program, which has grown to nearly 20 participants. Our Band program has also experienced tremendous growth with the addition of 11 students this year. Across all of our programs, our goal is simple: welcome every student with open arms and help them find a place to belong. If your student is thinking about trying something new, encourage them to take the leap. Sometimes all it takes is that first step to discover something they love.

We also want to address a concern we are seeing with student behavior in our restrooms. Unfortunately, the choices of a small number of students have not reflected the level of respect we expect at MHS. We have been very clear with students that anyone participating in vandalism, inappropriate behavior, or misuse of our restrooms will receive serious consequences.

Our restrooms are some of the most private spaces in our building, and every student deserves to feel comfortable and respected when using them. This takes all of us. Please remind your students that if they see something, they should say something. Respect for our school, ourselves, and one another matters.

Additionally, please continue having firm conversations with your students about vaping. Vaping is unhealthy, prohibited on campus, and illegal for our students based on their age. The consequences at school are significant and will be enforced consistently. Kids need reminders, even when we think they already know better. Conversations about the health risks, school consequences, and long-term impact of poor decisions are important to have often. Please continue having those conversations at home and reinforcing the expectations we are setting at school.

Thank you for your continued partnership and for trusting us with your kiddos each day. It has been a great start to the year, and we are excited about what is ahead.

Be A Bear,

Dr. Troy Collavo

Principal - MHS

Pep Rally & Den Logistics

If you attend classes at The Den, we have a plan in place to make sure you have the opportunity to attend the MHS Pep Rally while still being accounted for in your classes. Depending on your Den schedule and whether you ride the bus or drive, your class schedule may be impacted differently. Please reach out to your Den teachers if you have questions about the logistics or the specific plan for your schedule. Your teachers will make sure you know where you need to be, when you need to leave, and how to be counted present.
