Panther Press 25-26 31st Edition
Blueprint for Champions
Message From The Principal
May 10, 2026
Greetings Panther Family,
As we begin another exciting week at DHS, I would first like to wish a very Happy Mother’s Day to all of our mothers, grandmothers, guardians, and mother figures. Thank you for the love, support, encouragement, and sacrifices you make each and every day for our students and school community. Your guidance and partnership play a tremendous role in the success of our scholars, and we appreciate all that you do. We hope you enjoyed a wonderful and relaxing weekend celebrating the important impact you make in the lives of others.
This week also continues our AP testing season, and we encourage all students to come prepared and ready to do their very best. Be sure to get a good night’s rest, arrive on time, and bring all required materials each day. This is an important opportunity for students to showcase the hard work, perseverance, and dedication they have demonstrated throughout the school year, and we are confident in their success. We are proud of the effort our students have put forth and know they will continue to represent DHS with excellence.
Please be advised that backpacks will NOT be permitted on campus for the remainder of the school year from May 11th through May 22nd. We ask that all students leave backpacks and large tote-style bags at home during this time. If a Chromebook is required for class, it must be carried by hand, as backpacks will not be allowed on campus. Thank you for your cooperation, flexibility, and continued support as we work together to maintain a safe, secure, and orderly learning environment for all students and staff.
With just 10 days of school remaining, it is important that we stay focused and finish strong. Attendance continues to matter, and every day counts as we close out the school year. Students should remain committed to attending class daily, staying engaged in learning, and meeting all academic expectations. These final days are critical for completing assignments, preparing for final exams, and ending the year on a positive note. Let’s continue encouraging one another to remain motivated, disciplined, and committed to excellence all the way to the finish line.

Campus Policy REMINDERS
To help us maintain a safe, focused, and positive learning environment, please take a moment to review the following reminders with your student:
-
Headphones and Earbuds: Not allowed inside the building. If used, they will be confiscated, and disciplinary consequences may apply.
-
Cell Phones: Must remain powered off during the school day. Students not complying will face consequences aligned with the Student Code of Conduct.
-
Confiscated Devices: Will be kept in the main office for parent/guardian pickup.
-
Personal Devices: Duncanville ISD is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged items, including cell phones, headphones, or earbuds.
-
Headgear: Hats, caps, and hoodies covering the head are not permitted during school hours.
-
Blankets: Not permitted on campus at any time.
-
Student ID Badges: Must be worn daily while on campus as an important safety measure to ensure all individuals are easily identifiable.
Punctuality Matters
Being on time sets the tone for a successful day. Doors open at 7:00 a.m., and the tardy bell rings at 7:30 a.m. Please help us by encouraging your student to arrive early and be in class, ready to learn, before the bell.
We appreciate your support in reinforcing these expectations at home. Together, we can ensure a safe and productive school environment for all students.
Attendance Matters: EVERY STUDENT, EVERY DAY
Stay in the Race - Attendance Matters!
As we dive into the second month of this semester, let's keep up the momentum! Every day counts. Let's finish what we started - together!
What is ADA:
ADA (Average Daily Attendance) is the percentage of students who are present at school each day. It is calculated by dividing the total number of days students attend school by the total number of instructional days in the school year.
Weekly ADA Tracker:
This Week's ADA: 88.05%
Last Week's ADA: 88.11%
Goal: 93%
Daily attendance plays a critical role in student success. When students attend school every day, they stay engaged in learning, build positive habits, and remain on track for graduation. Attendance also impacts our campus by supporting strong instruction, school programs, and resources. Importantly, attendance is a key factor in state accountability. Schools with higher ADA are better positioned to meet state performance standards, earn recognition, and receive funding tied to student participation.
Together, we can help our students succeed. Thank you for making attendance a priority!
Every Student Matters. #championsattendchampionswin
Student Parking Reminder 🚗
Students are reminded that a valid parking sticker is required to park in all student parking lots. This helps us maintain a safe, secure, and organized campus for everyone.
Students without a valid parking permit will be issued warning stickers, and security will not allow entry into parking areas without proper documentation.
Additionally, all athletes must have a placard issued by the athletic department in order to park in designated areas.
We encourage all students who plan to drive to campus to ensure their parking permit is up to date and clearly displayed. Following these procedures helps keep traffic flowing smoothly and ensures the safety of all students and staff.
Thank you for your cooperation and for doing your part to keep our campus running efficiently!
DHS Panther Construction Students Compete in CIEF Build-Off

Dress Code Reminders
As we continue through the school year, we want to remind everyone of the dress code expectations:
Students are expected to follow the district dress code each day. Please note:
-
Hats and head coverings are not allowed.
-
Open-toed shoes are not permitted on campus.
-
A dress code violation is considered a Level I Offense. Consequences for all grades will be determined by the campus Behavior Coordinator in accordance with the Code of Conduct.
Non-compliance may result in consequences.
We appreciate your support in helping us maintain a safe, respectful, and distraction-free learning environment. Please take a moment to review these expectations with your student to ensure they are prepared each day.
Student ID Badges & Event Attendance
Student ID badges must be worn every day while on campus.
In addition, all students are required to present their school ID for entry to all athletic games and school events — regardless of parental accompaniment.
Please note:
-
Students assigned to DAEP, serving out-of-school suspension, or identified by an administrator as having engaged in conduct that raises concerns are not permitted to attend extracurricular events.
These expectations help us maintain a safe and positive environment for all students and families. Thank you for your support in reinforcing these guidelines with your child.
Tardy Sweep Reminders
To ensure students arrive to class on time and maximize learning, our campus will continue with Tardy Sweeps. This process helps reduce crowded hallways and minimize classroom interruptions.
What Students Need to Know:
-
Be in class when the bell rings. Once the bell rings, classroom doors will be locked.
-
If caught in a Tardy Sweep, students must report to a Tardy Station for documentation before returning to class.
-
Tardies accumulate across all classes in a single day, not just in one class.
We ask for your support in reminding students about the importance of being on time and ready to learn each day. To support this effort, we are also making adjustments to our tardy system to account for travel time between classes in some student schedules.
Together, we can maintain a positive, focused learning environment. Thank you for partnering with us in your child’s success!
Texas HB1481 Passed
In compliance with a new state law, students across Texas will be prohibited from using personal digital communications devices during the school day. Students can continue to use school-issued Chromebooks and similar educational devices.
All personal communication devices must be turned off and stored during the school day. This includes cell phones, smartwatches, wireless earbuds, tablets, gaming devices, smart glasses, and any other personal device capable of wireless communication.
To learn more and view the offenses and consequences for elementary and secondary students, please visit duncanvilleisd.org/hb1481.
