Te Karere o te Tumuaki/Principal's Message
Kia ora e te whānau,
As normal, this place is full of action. The whare is moving forwards in leaps and bounds, and a brief visit inside last week with the project managers, showed an amazing space shaping up. I am sure, like me, you are anticipating it's completion, which is on schedule. When it is time, there will be the appropriate tikanga to ensure the space is ready for occupation.
On Tuesday the school celebrated all of the support staff - teacher aides, admin and grounds staff - with a sumptuous morning tea and other special treats, created by the tamariki. We are grateful for the mahi these people do every day and it is nice to have an opportunity to have a special day for them.
I was so impressed with the performance of our tamariki at Showquest in week 1. Considering both other schools were of Intermediate age, our performers were outstanding. I am sure you will agree that the mahi of the students and staff involved, produced a very entertaining and thought provoking piece. Well done on all the accolades, you deserved them.
This term, we have welcomed another canine therapy dog. Rosie comes to see our tamariki on Friday, under the guidance of her mum Trish. Welcome Rosie and Trish!
Teachers continue to dig into the refreshed English and Maths curriculum, and we look forward to our next Staff Only Day on the 30th of May where we will be focussing further on Maths. Our teachers are continuously growing their capabilities and I would like to acknowledge their commitment to improving outcomes for your tamariki.

Showquest 2025
On Thursday 01 May, ShowQuest 2025 was held at Forum North. After weeks of developing choreography and a great storyline, after costume making and rehearsals, our students took to the stage with confidence and absolutely shone. The school picked up 2nd overall this year, along with the School Spirit award, the Best Story award and recognition awards for our efforts in arts, drama and music. Well done to all our wonderful performers, and the support crew behind them, without whom we would not have been able to represent our kura in such a way. Ka mau te wehi!
Road Safety Week 2025 - Be a Road Safety Hero
Local Heroes Promote Road Safety at Our School in Road Safety Week 2025
We were thrilled to welcome some of our local heroes—the District Council, Northern Rescue Helicopter, and Police—who visited our school as part of their road safety campaign.
These dedicated Road Safety ambassadors rewarded students who were spotted walking or biking to school safely, as well as those correctly wearing their seatbelts in the car.
They also spent valuable time with our amazing road patrollers, checking their equipment and offering support in their important role of keeping our school crossings safe every day.
Kokonga o Kirsty/Kirsty's Corner
Kia ora e te whanau,
I would love to share with you my library report (below) which is a snapshot of what happened in our library in Term 1 this year. Check out our most popular books, did you borrow any of these?

Honey
Once again, in 2025 we have honey available for purchase at the school office. Honey has been kindly donated by our partner beekeepers - Tahi honey, and we have further been gifted larger sized jars of Honeyeater honey - also from local Pataua hives. The honey is priced amazingly from $5 per jar to $20 (the big 1 kg jars) so why not pop in and pick some up. When the weather turns and the winter bugs start rolling through, it's great to have on hand.
2nd hand Uniform
Uniforms come and uniforms go! Stock levels are constantly dropping on our school shirts in many of the sizes. If your child has outgrown their uniform and you have no further need of it, please feel free to drop it in to the school office. The sales of these help the school purchase additional items that our former PTA used to supply, such as sunscreen, etc. Stocks are depleting again now of the jackets and jumpers but there are still some to be found in all sizes. The price has returned to $10 but it's still a great bargain!

Reminders/Ngā manatu
Autumn
The weather is starting to cool, and we are seeing a lot of sprinkly stuff that was absent so much over a long summer. A reminder that the Kids Can jackets (Warriors branded, or plain) are able to be worn as part of our uniform on cold or wet days. We do recommend that through the wetter months, tamariki bring a spare change of clothes, just in case they get caught out. We do not have a large supply here at school and cannot guarantee there will be suitable clothes to change into.

IMPORTANT NOTICES/TINO PANUI NUI
Medication: If your child requires medication to be brought or kept at school, please be aware that due to health and safety concerns, this must be kept secure in the school sick bay. It is not to be kept in children’s schoolbags during the day. This is to protect the safety of not only the child requiring the medication but also all other students. All medication requires an accompanying permission/approval form signed by their parent or caregiver. This includes epi-pens for allergy management, inhalers for asthma or any other medication your child requires on a short-term or as needed basis.
