Testing Time! CAASPP Assessments Are Underway

CAASPP testing season is here! These statewide assessments provide valuable insight into students’ progress in mastering California’s academic standards. At the high school level, CAASPP focuses on English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics, with additional science assessments for specific grades. The results help measure college and career readiness, making them an important milestone in a student’s academic journey.

💡 Tips to Support CAASPP Success

Families and caregivers can help students do their best by:

✔ Encouraging a Positive Mindset – Remind students to approach the test with confidence and see it as an opportunity to showcase their learning.
✔ Prioritizing Rest & Nutrition – A full night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast can improve focus and performance.
✔ Creating a Study-Friendly Space – A quiet, distraction-free area can help with review and practice.
✔ Familiarizing with Test Tools – Encourage students to use online CAASPP practice tests to get comfortable with the format.
✔ Emphasizing Growth Over Perfection – Remind them that learning is a journey, and mistakes help build skills.
✔ Staying Connected – Reach out to teachers or school staff for any questions or extra support.

With the right preparation and encouragement, students can approach the CAASPP with confidence and perform at their best! 🚀

Prospect High School’s Recycled Cycles Program Teaches Skills and Sustainability

Prospect High School is giving old bicycles a second chance while equipping students with valuable mechanical and teamwork skills through its innovative Recycled Cycles class. This hands-on program teaches students how to repair and refurbish bikes, promoting sustainability and community service in the process.

Through Recycled Cycles, students learn essential repair techniques, from fixing flat tires to adjusting brakes and gears. More than just a lesson in mechanics, the program fosters problem-solving, collaboration, and environmental responsibility. By restoring and repurposing bicycles, students help reduce waste and provide functional transportation to those in need.

The impact of the program extends beyond the classroom. Many of the refurbished bikes are donated to community members, offering a reliable and eco-friendly means of transportation. This initiative not only benefits recipients but also instills a sense of accomplishment and civic engagement in the students who participate.

The success of Recycled Cycles is a testament to the dedication of Prospect High School’s staff and students. Their efforts highlight the power of education in creating meaningful change, both for individuals and the broader community.

Las Plumas Ag Leadership Students Inspire Young Learners at Oakdale Elementary

Las Plumas High School’s Ag Leadership students recently brought the farm-to-table experience to life for young learners at Oakdale Elementary School. Nine high school students visited the elementary campus, engaging students in an interactive lesson centered around the book How Did That Get in My Lunchbox?

This hands-on initiative aimed to educate elementary students about the journey food takes from farms to their plates while fostering agricultural awareness. Through storytelling and discussions, the younger students gained a deeper appreciation for where their food comes from and the importance of agriculture in daily life.

Beyond benefiting the elementary students, the experience also served as a valuable learning opportunity for the Ag Leadership participants. By stepping into a teaching role, they honed their leadership, communication, and public speaking skills—essential qualities for future careers in agriculture and beyond.

The visit to Oakdale Elementary exemplifies the power of agricultural education in connecting students across grade levels while fostering leadership and a deeper understanding of the world of food production. With initiatives like these, Las Plumas High School continues to cultivate a new generation of informed and engaged agricultural leaders.

The Fellows Club of Oroville Top Ten The Fellows Club of Oroville Top Ten

Did you know Oroville’s Top 10 tradition started back in 1967, thanks to the Fellows Club of Oroville? This dedicated group aimed to foster fellowship and a stronger community, launching what was originally known as the Scholarship Academic Awards. Since then, over 5,000 students have been honored!

👨‍🎓 The first awards dinner took place at Las Plumas High School, where ten seniors received $100 for their academic excellence. Today, the tradition continues at the historic State Theatre, celebrating students annually.

💡 What began with a $100 donation from Dan Beebe has grown into a community-supported event. Thanks to the ongoing generosity of the Fellows Club and local supporters, each senior now receives a $500 scholarship, a certificate, and a personal photograph—marking a significant milestone in their academic journey.

🌟 Aim high, Oroville students! Join the ranks of the “Top Tenners” and become part of this treasured event!
