Dolphin Digest for Parents Vol. 39
Vol. 39: June 8 to June 12, 2026
Principal Pinto's Message
Dear NDE Families,
As we head into the final week of school, our teachers have planned more fun activities to wrap up the year on a high note. Please remind your student that school expectations still apply, even during off-campus events or activities, and the last day of school. A big thank you to all our parent volunteers—you help make these experiences possible, and we appreciate you deeply.
This Thursday at 8:30 a.m., we’ll hold our NDE Clap Out on the blacktop to celebrate and send off those who won’t be returning next year. We especially invite our 6th grade families to join us for this meaningful tradition. After the Clap Out, students will return to their classrooms. Please be sure to review the dismissal schedule linked below. Report cards will be sent home with students on Thursday.
This will be the final edition of the Dolphin Digest for the school year. To help prevent the “summer slide,” we encourage students to read every day. Our local public library is a wonderful resource and offers fun summer activities and reading incentives.
All student chromebooks will remain at NDE starting this year (please see email from Technology below). If your student's chromebook is at home, please make sure it comes back to school.
Our TK/K yard is undergoing significant renovation this summer. We will be getting a new play structure similar to the one at Korematsu and Willett. This area will be completely closed after June 12th.
I would like to thank Tandem properties for their grants to NDE. Congratulations to Ms. Ferguson and Ms. Milani who received a grant for updating special education materials, Ms.Roggenbuck for updating EL program materials, and Ms. Ochoa for purchasing UDL materials for second grade.
A special shout out to Wildhorse Golf course for providing our second and sixth graders an opportunity to learn and understand golf. Wildhorse offers summer opportunities for our youth.
Our first day of school will be Tuesday, August 25, 2025. Keep an eye out for the first edition of the Dolphin Digest on Sunday, August 16, which will include important information to help your family get ready for the new school year.
Wishing all of you a safe, relaxing, and joy-filled summer!
With much gratitude,
Principal Pinto
Dear DJUSD Families,
As we near the end of the 2025-2026 school year, we want to share an important update about student Chromebooks at the elementary level.
Beginning this year, all elementary students (TK-6th grade) will leave their Chromebooks at school at the end of the year. Devices will be checked in by district staff and assigned to classrooms for use by next year's students, rather than returning with individual students over the summer.
This practice is already in place for students in grades K-4, and we are now extending it to grades 5 and 6 for the 2026-27 school year. Students currently in 6th grade will be assigned a new Chromebook when they move to 7th grade in the fall. This will allow our team to maintain devices in good working condition, ensure equitable access for all students at the start of the new school year, and reduce the risk of loss or damage over the summer months.
If you have any questions about this change, please don't hesitate to contact Technology Services at technology@djusd.net or 530.757.5300 ext. 117. Thank you for your partnership, and we wish your family a safe and enjoyable summer!

PTA Announcements
Happy almost summer!
A huge shoutout to our incredible Running Club leaders / parent volunteers, Kirsten Graeber and Kathy Baird, as well as all of our dedicated runners and supportive parents. Together, our runners completed an amazing 12,929 laps. That’s equivalent to 1,436 miles! What an outstanding accomplishment. We hope to see even more 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders join the fun next spring.
We’d also like to give a special thank you to Mrs. Lindsay Manville for her wonderful leadership of the Pops Choir program. Last week’s concert was truly incredible, and we are so proud of all the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students who participated.
As always, for more PTA information, including access to Konstella, monthly meeting links, and ways to contact us, please visit https://ndepta.com/.

We are a PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) school!
What is PBIS?
A framework in which we develop systems to support students with behavior.
We do this by:
- Having consistent, school-wide expectations
- Explicitly teaching and re-teaching the expectations - shared responsibility
- Acknowledging the positive behavior
- Responding to problem behavior - it’s complicated!
- Using data to make decisions, make changes, and adjust systems
