MHS RESILIENCY PROJECT UPDATE
The Resiliency Project continues to focus on spreading awareness about trauma during the month of April. This week, we went over facts and myths about trauma to help combat some of the misconceptions about trauma.
For example, one myth is that all trauma will just heal over time. In fact, for some people, the symptoms of trauma can be delayed for months or even years after the traumatic event. Another myth is that trauma is always physical or direct. The fact is that emotional, verbal, and indirect trauma can have the same impact as a physical or direct trauma. Some believe the myth that trauma is a one-time event. In fact, trauma can be chronic, such as ongoing abuse or neglect, or even systematic, like living in poverty.
Next week, we will focus on information about the symptoms associated with living with trauma and both the short-term and long-term effects. Feel free to join us on Tuesday morning during extended homeroom in Room 43!!
