MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Mitchell Families,

It was another great week at Mitchell High! Thank you for entrusting us with your students and making sure they attended on Count Day. Your partnership is invaluable—each day present lets us offer your children excellent teachers, engaging programs, and meaningful opportunities.

Last week, fourteen Mitchell High students took part in two field trips to support their future success. Eight attended Southern Colorado Construction Career Days, doing hands-on projects and meeting industry professionals. Six joined the City of Colorado Springs Jobs trip, met civic leaders, learned about city operations, and explored public service careers. These experiences show our shared commitment to empowering students as future leaders. I encourage all families to stay informed about Peak Experiences that expose students to options for life after high school.

We’ve received questions about next week and want to clarify: Mitchell High will be open on Wednesday, October 8. Our top priority is each student’s safety, learning, and well-being. We are planning a productive day and look forward to excellent learning together.

October 8 will be another rewarding day at Mitchell High. In addition to our regular schedule, special opportunities are also planned. A group will join off-site flights with Falcon Aerolab. Seniors will have the opportunity to participate in Free College Application Day and a UCCS NCAA eligibility talk in the Future Center. After-school tutoring runs from 3:15 to 4:45 PM for extra support. In the evening, we invite families to the annual Fall Choir Concert at 7:00 PM to celebrate our students’ talents. We expect all activities to run smoothly.

Thank you for being part of our community. Together, we are building something special—one day at a time!

-George Smith, Principal

Freshman Seminar Spotlight: Building Strong Teams!

Our freshmen recently took on a team structure challenge focused on collaboration and positive relationship building. In just 25 minutes, groups worked together to build the tallest freestanding structure using limited materials — all while practicing teamwork, communication, and problem-solving.

Students reflected on their roles within their teams, identified their strengths, and set goals for growth as teammates. They also used team role cards and agree/disagree cards to guide their collaboration. The pride and creativity on display were truly impressive — great job, freshmen!
