Back to School

It is so hard to believe that summer is almost over. We have a lot of changes in our building and the custodians have been working hard to get things clean and have even been doing a lot of painting. As you are in the building or if you hear positive comments about the building, please let me know or, if you see a custodian, commend them. They have a tough job and often go unrecognized.

We are excited about changes happening and progress being made. We are looking forward to an exciting and event filled year!

Stay healthy, stay safe and enjoy your time as a family!

GO EAGLES!!!

Class Shirts

It is not too late to order a class shirt for your student. Orders and money are due Tuesday, September 9th. Shirts are ordered at the below link. Money is to be brought to the school and given to Mrs. Sims. https://forms.gle/o1yUanXqxcLo3P3R8

Toledo Museum of Art

Mrs. Speer (Elementary Art Teacher) and I (Mrs. Moorman, HS Art Teacher) not only teach art here at Eastwood, we also teach part-time at the Toledo Museum of Art. We wanted to share this information with you. The Museum’s fall studio classes are such a fun way to keep creating outside of school. They’re a great extension of what we do in our classrooms, and there are lots of scholarships available, many cover the full cost! We’d love to see our students benefit from these opportunities and keep that creative spark going all year.

The Toledo Museum of Art has a long history of nurturing young artists in our region. Its children’s programs have inspired generations, helping to shape the vibrant and creative community we enjoy today. This tradition of accessible, high-quality art education has enriched our local culture and continues to create a beautiful landscape of community and art for all to experience.

Here’s a message from our colleague Mrs. Lauren Geib, TMA Studio Programs Manager.

Hi,

I am writing to inform you that the Toledo Museum of Art Fall 2025 studio class registration is now open for youth, teens, and adults. These classes offer a unique opportunity to explore and enhance artistic skills in a vibrant and inspiring environment.

The Museum has scholarship opportunities available for youth and adult students, which cover 100% of the registration fee for most classes. If you are interested, please submit one Scholarship Application Form per class. You may apply for more than one scholarship if you have an interest in multiple classes. If applying, please don’t register for class in advance. We will register you if we are able to award you a scholarship. While we’d love to help everyone, we receive many applications, which makes scholarships competitive and unfortunately doesn’t guarantee automatic approval. : Learn | Toledo Museum of Art

We encourage all interested individuals to explore the diverse classes offered and take advantage of the scholarship opportunities provided by Toledo Museum of Art. If you have any questions or require further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me: Lauren Geib, Studio Programs Manager

Thanks,

Lauren Geib

Free and Reduced Lunches/Fees

If you have applied or intend to apply for Free/Reduced Lunches, please note that Mrs. Eaton will be unable to adjust your school fees until after October 1. The only school fee that she is unable to waive is the $25 laptop fee and the fee for a parking pass (if it applies to your student). She also will not waive any fees incurred outside of the school fees such as supplies, lost books, laptops or uniforms, etc.

If you have any questions about this, please let us know.

Final Forms

If you and your student have already completed Final Forms, Thank you! If you have not, we need all students and parents to complete Final Forms as soon as possible. It will help us immensely to assure we have the best possible information. This is true for students that attend Penta as well as those who are here in the building. Also, Senior families, please make sure you complete the "Senior Diploma Form" using their full name as it appears on their birth certificate or a legal name change document (that we need to also have on file!).

Parking Permits

If you plan on having your student drive to school, please complete all necessary documents in Final Forms. The fee for the parking tag ($5) will be added to their fees for schedule pick up ONLY if the permit information has been completed in Final Forms prior to August 12th. The list of student's who wish to purchase a parking permit and have completed all necessary documents in Final Forms will be downloaded on August 12 to give Mrs. Eaton time to attach the fees to your student, so please have this all completed prior to then. The student MUST ALSO SIGN OFF!!! The Parking Tag for those students will also be attached to their schedule.

Parking permits will be able to be purchased at any point during the school year if you do not get it done before August 12th, or your student is not driving yet. They will be available in the office throughout the year. The fee will just have to be paid at the time the permit is purchased. The student will NOT be permitted to purchase a parking permit until the forms are competed in Final Forms by both parent and student.

Band Camp

The EHS Eagle Marching Band has a great week at our new location on the campus of Spring Arbor University. They put in 7 hours of rehearsal for 5 warm days and 1 wet one to bring 53 charts and 8 pieces of music for a pregame and halftime show to life. They are off to a strong start and the staff and parents couldn't be more proud of their accomplishments at band camp.

With all the illness going around, and some of them keeping students out multiple days, please take a look at this and keep it in mind when debating about sending your student to school.

Superintendent's email

We wish good luck to Mr. Welker, who has retired and welcome our new Superintendent Mr. Brian Hughes. Mr. Hughes will continue the tradition of sending out Community Emails. If you were on the list for Mr. Welker, you need to do nothing. Mr. Hughes will have access to the same list. Please periodically check your Spam Folder and if Mr. Hughes' emails show up in Spam, add him as a contact to keep this from happening.

If you are not on the Community Email list and would like to be on it, please navigate to the School's Website www.eastwoodschools.org and on the main page, you will see a link to sign up for Mr. Hughes' community emails!

Transportation

EASTWOOD TRANSPORTATION NOTEWe're finalizing bus routes at this time and preparing to send out bus schedules the week of August 11. To be sure your child is routed accurately, please review the information below.

If you have already submitted the necessary forms for the upcoming school year, thank you! You do not have to submit another form at this time!

Action may be required for us to properly route your student(s).

Here is a list of categories that require action:

If your child falls into one of these categories, a form is required and must be submitted prior to August 1.

  • Students attending Penta Career Center

    • Even if they do not plan to ride the bus, a transportation plan is required.

  • Students who will have a friend or family member providing transportation

  • Students who drive

  • Students using any address other than their home address. Examples below:

    • Day Cares

    • Homes of friends or family members

    • Shared Parenting - using the address of both parents (as long as both parents reside in the District)

Please use the link provided here to review important transportation information, and access the links you need to submit the appropriate forms!

Senior Immunizations

Students who will be entering or are in the 12th grade are required to receive a Meningococcal vaccine. The state of Ohio now requires a first dose prior to entering 7th grade and a 2nd dose prior to the student's senior year. If a dose was given prior to the student's 16th birthday, they are required to receive the second dose. Verification of this vaccine needs to be turned in to the office. If, at anytime, you take your student to get their immunization, please send proof of this to the office.

Meningitis is an inflammation of the protective layer around the brain and spinal cord. This disease can be fatal or leave those who survive it with permanent disabilities. The meningococcal vaccine is the best way to avoid meningitis.

Section 3313.671 of the Ohio Revised Code states that students who do not provide documentation of this immunization are subject to exclusion from school.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding immunizations, please contact Dannelle Sutton, RN, School Nurse at dsutton@eastwoodschools.org or call the Ohio Department of Health Immunization Program hotline at 800-282-0546, or visit the ODH website.

Medication

Finals Forms has provided some confusion in regards to medication for our students. If your student will need to take medication at school, be it prescription or over the counter, you will need to print out the appropriate form on Final Forms, complete it and send it in to school. You will also need to provide a bottle of medication in its original container. We do not have medication (Tylenol, Advil, etc) to give to students.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call the office and speak to the secretaries.

Free and Reduced Applications

If you believe your family will qualify for free or reduced lunches and fees, please go into Final Forms under Situational Forms and complete the 2025-2026 application online. Assure that you complete the page with check boxes that allows the board office to share your status with building secretaries. Processing of approval is automatic when done online. Thank you

Fees - IMPORTANT REMINDER

This is just a friendly reminder about the Board policy regarding participation fees. The Board policy, instituted in 2014, indicates that any outstanding fees must be paid in full, unless you have been consistently making payments on your students fees, PRIOR to the office being able to accept/apply any payments to the athletic participation fees. Participation fees MUST be paid prior to the first competition (excluding scrimmages). This policy also pertains to participation in band and FFA activities. If you wish to go on a payment plan, please contact Mrs. Eaton as soon as possible and set it up.

This is a policy that is set by the board and the secretaries will be adhering to it. If you have a balance, please make arrangements to pay the fees via PaySchoolCentral with a credit card, or in the office with exact cash or a check.

If you would like a copy of the policy, please contact the office and Mrs. Eaton or Mrs. Brown will be happy to provide it to you.

For our families of Seniors: It is also part of board policy that Seniors will not be issued their diplomas until all fees are paid and community service is completed. If you need to set up a payment plan, it is suggested you do this early in the year to ease the burden in May. Please contact Mrs. Jody Eaton to do so at jeaton@eastwoodschools.org or call her at the office at 419-833-3611.

Remind 101

Just a reminder that the district uses Remind 101 to notify families of closings, delays and other emergencies. Please assure that you have signed up or have up to date information in your account. There are instructions on the school's website under the Parent tab on how to sign up!
